BULLETIN

The Bulldog Battalion welcomes back returning and new Cadets in the program. Cadets from new freshmen to the university all the way to our commissioning MSIVs. As one of the traditions here on campus, the returning cadets assisted with Freshmen Move In Day. Cadets were scattered across the campus in Mitchell, Truth, and Williams Hall lending a hand to fellow students.

WELCOME BACK BULLDOGS

Dr. Jennifer Cash, an associate professor in the Biology and Physical Sciences Department at SC State organized yet another rocket launch. Similar to the event in late April, Students of Felton Laboratory Charter School got the opportunity to be rocket scientist for a day. The program was initially started through a NASA grant program. Students seeking opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics got the opportunity to build and launch a flying model rocket on Felton field. Cadets of the Bulldog Battalion assisted with event success.

2nd ANNUAL ROCKET LAUNCH

ROTC YOUTH DAY

Youth day is organized by the Department of Athletics. The event provides an introduction to College and ROTC culture for our community elementary, middle and high school student population. The day is full of events ranging from our Marching Band to our illustrious Cheerleading squad. Bulldog Battalion uses this day to recruit potential Cadets and enable our continual community outreach while spreading the rich history of SC State.

As an MSIV, one of the more anxious points in your senior year is finding out your Army component prior to graduation. Different from past years, Cadets reported to the endzone of Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. Following a quick accountability formation, Cadets were required to sprint 88.5 yards towards the opposite endzone to retrieve their component notifications. The random distance traveled symbolizes the correlation of time spent in the ROTC Program compared to the time remaining towards commissioning.

COMPONENT DAY

It’s not every day you have the opportunity to jump out of a perfectly good Airplane. On Sept 8, just days before Hurricane Irma touched down on the east coast of the United States, Dr. James E. Clark, the 12th President of South Carolina State University had the opportunity to make his first freefall jump with the Army Reserves on McEntire Joint National Guard Base. Under the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team Jumpers, Clark describe the experience as one he would never forget. Dr. Clark isn’t a stranger to his feet being off the ground. He is an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association Board of Directors and is an Air Show Pilot. Photo Credits: Mauricio Richardson of Pressmark/LLC
