Haiti is 1/3 of the

island of Hispaniola

(With nearly identical population levels, Haitian GDP = $ 5B, and Dominican Republic GDP = $ 32B )

Poorest Country in the Western Hemisphere… with a population of nearly 9 million….

• 80% of Haitian rely on subsistence farming • 95% is deforested and 80% of topsoil eroded• The Literacy rate is only 54%

* Haiti ranks last/worst in the global water poverty index

But Rotary and Haiti Outreach are Helping

Rotary Safe Water Plus Program – 100,000+ people in Central Plateau now have access to safe drinking water

Only 3 public secondary schools in the entire Central Plateau of Haiti - 200,000 potential students!

These children deserve a chance to attend school to improve their lives and create futures

In Haiti, only 18% of the children attend secondary school….Will you help?

La Victoire . . . Is a community of 10,000people where we are doing a ‘Safe Water’ Project They have 1 public primary school and 00 Secondary schools .

The Community has asked for help to build a secondary school

La Victoire Secondary School …. If we build it…. They will come! Serve over 400 low-income students who have no

other access to public secondary schools The Haitian Education Ministry will staff, support

and maintain the school once it is built The project includes a safe-water project Construction will use local labor, managed by

Minnetonka based Haiti Outreach staff in Haiti. Architectural design is through a

partnership with Engineers Without Borders

The goal is to have the school ready to open in late 2009. Construction will take 5-6 months
