KING DAVID

Became king around 1000 BCE and reigned Israel’s golden age.

Accomplishments

• He helped unify Israel by capturing the city of Jerusalem and making it his capital.

• Under his leadership a series of successful military campaigns secured Israel’s border against the neighboring people.

David• 1. He was 30 years old when he became a

king.

• 2. He reigned for 40 years.

• 3. Son of Jesse

• 4. Husband of Michal, Abigail, Bathsheba.

• 5. Father of Absolom, Amnon and Solomon, etc.

6. The eighth and youngest son

David and the Ark

• He brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. Later this Ark was lost, but the Bible says it will be found again at the end of the world.

David was a shepherd

• He is trained to fight against predator and ferocious animals .

Early Stage

• After God rejected the foolishness of Saul, He sent Samuel to Bethlehem to anoint David as successor.

But served in the court of Saul as musician to entertain the king due to depression

David and Goliath

• Fought and killed Goliath in the Valley of Elah.

• Goliath was the best army of Phillistine

• Resulted great victory of Israel

• The heroic act made David a favorite of the people

• Much to the disfavor and jealousy of Saul.

• From then on, he wanted David killed.

David in Hebron

Upon Saul’s death, David went to Hebron where he was anointed as king of Judah.

Ish-Bosheth – The legitimate son of Saul was still alive.

When the son of Saul was assassinated, David was proclaimed king of Israel.

David and Jerusalem

• David then moved his capital from Hebron to Jebus – The land of the Jebusites.

• He attacked first the Jebusites then brought the ark of the covenant in that city.

The Similarity of Saul and David

• Both Sinned

Differences

After David committed adultery with Bathsheba and arranged to have Uriah killed, then Nathan confronted him with his sins, David did not excuse himself.

• Which taught his the fighting skills when defending the flocks from predatory animals.

• Both sinned

REPENTANCE was the greatest difference

• Repentance is the greatest lesson on this part of the book of Samuel.
