1. KETGATE Brokerage Event:
Boosting technology transfer in Central Europe
On occasion of the official launch of the KETGATE Network, and after the great success of the
Matchmaking event organised, this time we invite all small-& medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and
research and technology organizations (RTOs) looking for the right research and/or industry partner to
explore cooperation opportunities online.
The event was planned to take place in Budapest (Hungary) on 7th of May. However, due to the current
situation generated by the outbreak of the COVID-19 it was decided by the Project Consortium to organise
completely virtual brokerage event. Together with more than 25 Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) Local
Contact Points from all over Central Europe we have joined forces – this unique matchmaking activity with
pre-arranged b2b meetings.
During 30-minutes sessions of pre-arranged meetings, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and
research and technology organisations (RTOs) representatives will have time to introduce themselves,
discuss technology transfer opportunities in the field of to Key Enabling Technologies. Simply register on
the website, choose time slot that suits you the best, create your profile. The next step is to check what
offers and requests are available – participants with common matchmaking sessions will be shown as
available.
Registration is open until 4 May 2020 – via the link:

2. KETGATE Network
KETGATE is a technology transfer network with the mission to mitigate the regional dispensaries related to
how Central European SMEs access the knowledge developed by RTOs in the field of KET.
Such RTOs are not always located in the nearby, thus transnational contacts need to be established to
make possible the implementation of a specific KET under development far away from SME which could
make use of it in order to remain competitive in the global market.
To that end, the KETGATE network deployed a group of KETGATE Points distributed all over Central
Europe, each of which, has a duty to act as a bridge among SMEs and RTOs located in different corners of
the region.
The mission of the KETGATE Network is to help businesses reach science and to help science reach
businesses. For the moment, the network consists of eight KETGATE Points covering a big part of Central
Europe. All KETGATE Points are experts in the field of technology transfer and are important stakeholders
in their regions. The network is called to grow, so let us know if you are interested in becoming a part of
it. Visit our KETGATE Network Website to learn more.
2.1. How doest it work?
Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) are strategic technologies. They fuel economic growth, create new jobs
and contribute to solve societal challenges. They are crucial to upgrade products, improve processes for
regional innovation capacity, open new market opportunities and guarantee future competiveness of
Central Europe (CE) industry on a global scale.
However, there are regional disparities in CE in how SMEs are getting access to (trans-) national Research
and Technology Organisations (RTO) offering KET technology services. In this framework, the KETGATE
Points (KPs) installed at regional level could provide a solution to this problem. They build a bridge
between the SMEs and the RTOs. On the one hand, the KPs offer consulting services to SMEs in their
mother tongue and after understanding their needs, the KPs support them accessing the services of KET
providers and implementing KETs in their companies. On the other hand, the KET Providers (RTOs) deliver
information on KET to the KPs. In this way, the KETGATE Points can select the right KET Provider(s) for an
SME to set a suitable (trans-) national service for the benefit of the SME.
2.2. Objectives
The main objective of the KETGATE Points is to support SMEs on gaining wide-access to the newest high
quality KET-infrastructure and KET-services. All KPs activities will foster an intensified transnational
collaboration throughout Central Europe, as business support organisations (BSOs) and research and
technology organisations (RTOs) cooperate in close linkages in transparent operational processes.
Consequently, the KETGATE Points will:
Build process to understand the needs and the capacity of the SMEs to be able to offer them KET-services
that will fit with their strategic objectives.
Connect SMEs with the best available KET provider (RTOs), no matter if the SME is not located in the
same geographical area of the KET providers and/or if the KET competences are jointly delivered by more
than one provider.
Strengthen relationships of KET-providers across Central Europe offering complementary services to SME.

3. KETGATE Project: Summary & key facts
Enhancing SME competitiveness through improved access to Key Enabling Technologies in Central
Europe
Key Enabling Technologies (KET) are drivers of innovation and set important impetus for an intelligent and
sustainable economic growth in Europe in order to ensure the future viability of our society. However,
there are major differences in access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to KETs within
Europe. These are particularly evident in many Central European countries where a suitable infrastructure
for KETs is still insufficiently available.
For this purpose, on 1st July 2017 the Interreg Central Europe (CE) project KETGATE was launched to
enable a CE-wide access to highly competent KET technology and infrastructure services for SMEs as well
as to install a transnational KET Innovation Ecosystem.
The KETGATE project, coordinated by Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ), connects business support
organisations (BSO) and research institutes (RTO) in order to help SMEs accessing high-level technology for
advanced materials, photonics and micro-& nano-electronics in the areas of transport, health and food.
The consortium encompasses eight partners (five BSOs and three RTOs) from 8 different countries.
A contact point was set up at each partner location which offers advice to SMEs towards KET application.
In pilot projects, jointly developed service models offer selected companies the concrete application of
KETs through cross-border cooperation. In total, the network of smart access points will support at least
90 SMEs from Central European regions as well as at least 15 transnational pilot cooperation agreements.
Besides, contractual obligations will be made with 20 other organisations to expand and to strengthen the
network. Thus, the project not only contributes to the competitiveness of SMEs in Central Europe, but it
also generates significant change for the entire CE region by supporting regional Smart Specialisation
Strategies (S3).
Key Facts
The consortium encompasses eight Partners (five BSOs and three RTOs) from eight different countries: Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Slovenia
Project duration: 07/2017 – 08/2020
