repair kits for Holden’s and Ford’s which consisted of super glue cotton rubber bands and
bandages. Members talked about paying club rego, only cheque or visit Vic Roads. Gary Toll
talked about a PA system he had spotted at a music shop, as members find it hard to hear at
the back of the room and it would be useful at other events where crowds are involved.
THE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Although I was not there from all the reports I have received the run to Harrow was a
great weekend. Thanks to Rob Barr for organising this run.
Since the Harrow run, several of the committee have been talking about the problem of
paying for functions on this type of run. Our Treasurer collected the money for the show at
Harrow and found himself responsible for a large of money until it could be passed on to an
organiser of the event. In future we will be asking for the money for these events to be paid at
the meeting BEFORE the run so that it can be banked and then a cheque can be written out
against it to pay for the event. This will solve the problem of a large amount of cash being
carried and so safer and more secure for all concerned.
The Show and Shine in on the 23rd of April. Please get your completed entry forms in as
soon as possible before the16th of April so we know numbers for each section and we can
allocate the appropriate area for all entries. This year the Show and Shine will have some trade
sites from local business.
The next lot of Club badges for the front of your cars have arrived. If you have ordered
one or would like one please bring $30 [each] to the next meeting to obtain one.
See you at the next meeting, Colin.

Club Captain Report March 2017
The Weekend run to Harrow was enjoyed by all who attended. The Woods Museum at
Rupanyup, had a fantastic display of almost everything you could think of. Dinner and Show
in Harrow was very entertaining, but a bit noisy at times. Great Meal & Good Company. The
late night run to Naracoorte was incident free. After Breakfast we toured the caves and then
visited the Naracoorte Car Club for an enjoyable lunch. They have great club rooms and sheds
to store and display club cars. Many thanks to Rob & Ann Barr, for organising a great
weekend.
Saturday March 18th the club is travelling to Lake Boga to help celebrate, the 75th
Anniversary of the Lake Boga Flying Boat Base. We are leaving Atkinson Park at 8:30 am.
Saturday 25th March, Cohuna Agricultural Society would like club cars for a display at the
Goat Show on Saturday from 10 am, Cohuna Rec Reserve.
Sunday March 26th President Mystery Run will depart Atkinson Park at 8:30am. Please
bring morning tea, lunch money and a full tank of fuel. Hope you are looking forward to our
unknown adventure.
Sunday 2nd April the club is visiting The Terry Dowel car collection in Melbourne. As there
hasn’t been a lot of interest in this run, we have swapped the 49 seater coach for a 20 seater.
This bus is now full but we can take names for the waiting list. Members are most welcome
to travel in their own cars.
Sunday April 23rd is the second Show n Shine, it will be held at Kerang Show grounds, it
would be fantastic if as many members as possible could enter their cars to support this event.
We also need members to assist on the day helping with parking etc.
Motor Heritage Day this year is on Sunday 21st May. Host club is Deniliquin
Car Club, held at Waring Gardens, Corner of Harrison & Napier Street Deniliquin.
Cheers Ken

Kerang and District Vintage Motor Club Tour of Tasmania
Monday 31st October 2016 – Hobart to Port Arthur
Bottoming out as we exited the Hobart Travelodge was the order of the day as we started our
trek to Port Arthur.
Another section of very winding roads had the blokes in ecstasy and the women hanging on for
dear life, some scenic views along the way included ‘The Blow Hole’, ‘Tasman Arch’ and ‘The
Devils Kitchen’.
The Port Arthur car park was witness to some slight tweaking to the repair job on Webby’s car,
Rod Coates locking his keys in his car and Greeny putting his ‘break & enter’ skills to good
use. Rods spare keys were in Carens’ handbag (sitting on the floor of the car).
Port Arthur was truly an amazing place full of history. Members spent their day wandering at
leisure through the ruins and beautiful grounds, while the Hughes’ braved a Port Arthur cruise
after the previous days Bruny Island cruise was cancelled due to bad weather.
On booking into our accommodation everyone gathered in the carpark for a drink & natter,
Jock flitted about toting his trusty camera and capturing the memories with everyone standing
in front of their cars. Sue locked the motel keys in their room but Lyndsay didn’t really give a
**** as his priority was his grog which was sitting invitingly in his ute esky.
The Hughes’ ‘just’ made it back in time for the walk down to dinner, Chad (aka Richard) was
her teeth wrapped around a flower posing for a photo and Browny was named ‘Lighthouse
Keeper’ in the dining room!
The ghost tour went off well with Shirl getting scared out of her skin by a knocking on a door
(because she was falling asleep) and Greeny was thought to be one of the ‘taken’, but on further
inspection it turned out he’d disappeared into the shrubbery to pay homage to nature.
A bloody great day all round. By Rod and Caren Coates.

CAR MAKE AND YEAR PRODUCED: 1971 ZD Ford Fairlane 500
CAR OWNER/S; Heath & Jessica O’Brien
YEARS CAR OWNED; 20+Years
BRIEF HISTORY OF CAR; Dad (Kevin O’Brien) purchased this car from its original owner Lloyd Smith in
the early eighties as a spare parts car, it had an overheated engine & transmission and a driver’s door that had
been damaged, Interior was in excellent condition. The car was put into storage on a local farm for many years
where unfortunately it was taken over by rats that destroyed the interior. When I was around 14-15 the car was
collected from the farm and brought back to Dads shed with the intention to part it out, I begged and pleaded
with Dad to save it, he then proceeded to repair the rust – the usual places, quarter sills etc. With limited
knowledge and experience I went about fitting a replacement engine, transmission and other parts, we also
wrecked another 3 Fairlanes along the way for parts. The car was then re-sprayed (poorly) and was set aside in
disgust for a few years until I had my own shed, I did a deal with a Spray Painter for a better paint Job and with
an upholster for repairs on the interior. The car was registered and driven for a few years with the replacement
engine and transmission until around 2011 when I decided to rebuild the original engine and fit a later model 4
speed overdrive transmission. At the same time, I repainted the engine bay and repaired the dealer fit under
dash air con. I really enjoy driving the car – it’s kind of like driving your lounge room, plenty of room in the
boot with the sweet sound of a Ford V8

Kerang and District Vintage Motor Club Run To Harrow
10am sharp we headed toward Donald which was our first stop, member’s numbers were high
as 60 were booked in for the show that night.
The pub meal at Donald was great and the specials were priced right, after lunch it was off to
Rupanyup to the Wood brothers museum where we ran into some ex members the Langley’s.
The Museum was full of interesting collectables, they didn’t have one of everything they had a
dozen if not more of some things.
We then headed to Horsham for a fuel top up and a cuppa then headed to Harrow, now there
was a rumour going around that a ford broke down outside of Horsham as there are no photo’s
it didn’t happen but I would like to thank the Cason’s for their help.
Arriving in Harrow we hung around the front of the pub with drinks in hand waiting for the
show to start, moving inside we walked upstairs to where the show was, the meal was great and
the show was very interesting and entertaining, it was a late night as we got to Naracoorte at
11:30 Pm.
The next morning we had a tour of the Fossil Caves, as there were so many of us we split up
into two groups. The cave tour was very interesting and educational, as our guide was good at
his job as he kept us informed during our tour.
Lunch time and it was off to the Naracoorte Car Club for a meal, we were impressed by the size
of their club rooms as they had room to display member’s cars and tractors. After lunch we had
a quick chat and then it was the long trip home.
Stopped at the Donald Pub for lunch.
