End of year Report -‐ Chairman
We had a fantastic start to the past season with all registrations being done electronically which made life much easier for everyone. We started the season with a skills coaching night in September. We were able to draw on past KBLAC athletes to have a chat to the current and new children and demonstrate how to do the various events. The night was a great success for everyone and one we will repeat each year. Our numbers were down again this year which is partly a seasonal thing (Olympics next year should see numbers back up). There are also relatively new competing sports such as summer soccer which drew away some athletes.
The 2011 – 2012 season was our last competing under the Blue Mountains Zone and region. Many are sad that we will not be holding region carnivals at Blacktown any more. From next season, we will be competing in a new Zone (Western Ranges) and our region carnivals will be held in central NSW area (Dubbo next year). This was a change that our committee strongly disagreed with however in the end we lost and must now move forward.
The past season whilst starting out dry, will end up being remembered for the rain. Up until December, the weather was great. When we tried to return after the Christmas break, the rain just kept falling – particularly on Friday afternoons. We were only able to get two nights in. This made it difficult preparing for Region and State however as always, our kids made the most of things.
The 2011 Zone carnival was held at Katoomba and was a very enjoyable and well run event. Hats off to Katoomba – which is a relatively small club. We had 77 entries in Zone and from that we had 61 athletes qualify to Region (9 were unable to progress due to age). Region was at Blacktown and was another well run event. From this we had 39 (plus 1 AWD) qualify through to state. That is a fantastic effort from our club and I believe we would be one of the most successful clubs in the state looking at numbers through to state (certainly in our region). Congratulations to all our State athletes. Congratulations to our State medallists – Katrina Blackett, Tully Murphy, Caitlyn Ferrier, Lauren Russell, Shay Southern, Maddy Owen, Riley Howarth and Amanda Kristcevic (AWD).
The quality of our athletes just keeps getting better. This past year, Katrina Blackett set new records in Javelin at zone, region and state. Brooke Keller also set a new State record for the 100m sprint. A fantastic effort. Last years Athlete of the Year (Sara Klein) has been selected to represent Australia in the World Youth Games to be held in Spain in July in the 400m hurdles. In qualifying, Sara ran a new PB beating Jana Pitman’s record. In July 2011 David Snowdon competed in the 2011 World Youth Games and finished 6th in the world. In September 2011 Jack Bangall competed in the Commonwealth Youth Games also finishing 6th. Incredible stars!
As always, our committee members put an awful amount of time into making our club what it is today. Many of these people are seen hard at work, however there are a number of them who do the “unseen” work. This is work such as line marking the oval, fixing broken equipment, organising the canteen, entering the results from each week into the computer, and attending other meetings and much more. I would like to say thank you to our fantastic coach and all the parents who helped her in coaching our fantastic children throughout the season. As always, it is sad that we say farewell to our U17 athletes and I wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
Finally I would like to thank Lynette who has supported me throughout another season. I must say it has been a great pleasure and a lot of fun being Chairman of our great club for another season and look forward to the next.

Secretaries Report
Another successful season has come and gone and soon we will be preparing for the 2012/2013 season. This was my first year as secretary and it has been a joy working with my fellow committee members, I would especially like to thank David Donnelly for his help and assistance -‐ being new to this position I have relied on David a lot to guide me! Secondly, I would like to thank the committee for all their ongoing hard work, without you our centre could not operate. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month at McMahons Park hall and our meetings were well attended throughout the year.
Finally I would like to congratulate all of the KBLAC athletes who represented our club at championship level, for such a small club I am very proud of the amount of athletes who make it through to these levels.
Thank you everyone for the support as Secretary and I look forward to working with everyone next season.
Meegan Keller
Treasurers Report
Please note that all figures are pre-audit.
KBLAC operates with 2 Bendigo Bank Accounts, the main account which takes all rego monies and pays for all registration, equipment and competition expenses and the canteen account which takes all canteen income with expenses including all canteen related expenses, including food, drinks and canteen/BBQ equipment.
This year saw us rained out a lot with at least 6 nights cancelled due to the weather. This has affected our canteen profits, however we still made a profit of $3175.39 despite the weather and some food spoilage due to last minute cancellations. We were also able to implement a Committee Christmas Party which was funded from the canteen account being a nice thankyou for the committee’s continual hard work. A coffee machine and some new warming bays were also purchased and we still have the float to re bank and some stock to on sell to Colo Soccer Club. The closing balance of the canteen account at 31/3/12 was $10,794.29.
The main account for KBLAC has shown a small loss for the year of $798.28, however we were able to help send Marilyn and David Snowdon to the World Youth Games and purchase some new equipment. The closing balance in the main account as of 31/3/12 was $24431.39 with $100 float and some uniform income still to be banked.
I would recommend the purchase of a relatively cheap laptop (or ask if anyone could donate one) to be used for registrations and MYOB – this would make it easier for auditing and change of treasurers.
Finally I would like to say it has been a pleasure to be involved with KBLAC for another season.
Karen Blanch Treasurer
Coach’s Report
We have just come to the end of another very successful season for the Centre with some extraordinary results. Our athletes again represented us at all major championships, including Zone, Region, State and State Multi. We had a great attendance at training throughout the season. All our athletes worked consistently and enthusiastically to improve their performances resulting in many PB’s. It is always a pleasure to see their great results and their wonderful sportsmanship. They are a credit to our Club and I’m proud of each and every one of them & wish them every success next season. Many thanks to all my helpers who have regularly assisted with training especially Laurie Fairweather, Helen Zaurrini and Susan Ferrier. Your help has been invaluable. Congratulations to all of our State Athletes particularly Katrina, Caitlyn, Lauren, Tully, Shay, Maddy, Riley and Amanda who were all medal winners. A special mention to one of our most talented juniors Brooke Keller, who won a Bronze medal at the State Multi Championships and 3 Gold medals at Region where she also set a new State record in the U8 100m. This is a phenomenal result for young Brooke and it will certainly be exciting to watch her progress over the next few years. Our senior athletes have also enjoyed another extremely successful season. David Snowdon jumped his way into the final of the high jump at the World Youth Championships in France and placed an outstanding 6th on countback, just one height below that needed to medal! Jack Bangel enjoyed similar success at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Isle of Man where he made the final of the 400m hurdles and also placed 6th. Our latest success story is Sara Klein who smashed Jana Pittman’s Australian Junior 400m hurdles record in March at the National Junior Championships to take the Gold medal and gain automatic selection for the World Junior Championhips to be held in Spain in July. Sara will be the 11th athlete to represent Australia from this Club! We wish her every success in her debut on the world stage. Special congratulations to all our major prize winners, particularly Katrina, Caitlyn, Brooke, Tully and Lauren. Sincere thanks once again to my husband Gerry for his constant support and encouragement throughout the season. Marilyn Pearson Centre Coach

Age Manager Co-‐ordinator’s Report
I would really like to comment on the lovely family environment we find at the Kurrajong-Bilpin Little Athletics club. This year as age manager coordinator, I found that whether the age managers were available or not on the night there was always someone willing to step in and be involved, not only supporting their child, but also the many other children looking for a rewarding and enjoyable evening.
I would really like to thank all the parents and guardians that did volunteer their time it is very much valued and appreciated. I hope to see you all next season. With the changes that are occurring in our Zone, it would be great if we could all stick together as we would not find a better club around to be a part off!!
Lastly, congratulations to all the KBLAC athletes, on their outstanding accomplishments, a large thank you to our coach Marilyn Pearson and big thankyou to all the committee members for another successful year.
Helen Zaurrini
Canteen Co-‐Ordinator’s Report
I would like to thank all the parents of the club who helped out on Friday nights. The rostered nights for each age group certainly helped. I would also like to thank the older athletes for helping out when needed.
The season started out well until the Christmas break. After that rain really played havoc and we were only able to run a couple of nights. This caused problems with food ordering and unfortunately some went to waste. Overall it was a profitable season for the club.
Lynette Winser Canteen Co-Ordinator
Computer Operator’s Report
The 2011-12 season has been my first as part of the committee, and one which I have thoroughly enjoyed. It’s been wonderful to watch the achievements of the athletes throughout the season, from those just having a go for a bit of fun on Friday nights, through to those who have represented our club at the highest levels. It’s great to see the friendships that have formed between athletes of all ages within the club and the support that our athletes all give to one another – we have fantastic team spirit at KBLAC and it’s been wonderful to be a part of that.
The first few weeks of doing the computer entry provided a very steep learning curve, but as the weeks wore on the job became easier and a little less time-consuming. I’d like to say a very big thank you to my predecessor Bob Klein for passing on his extensive knowledge of the job. Bob was a huge help in providing detailed written instructions as to all of the processes involved in the job, and was always available to answer any questions as they arose.
Thanks to all the Age Managers and parent helpers for making Friday nights run smoothly. It was great to see some new faces stepping up to help out and take on new jobs when we were short-staffed, and to see most parents getting behind our new canteen roster system. A big thank you also to Maz for her tireless efforts in training all our athletes and helping them to achieve the excellent results that they have achieved this season.
I feel very lucky to also have been given the opportunity to fulfil other roles outside of the computer entry position, from helping out with the organisation of State Relays, being involved in the Zone, Regional and State Carnivals, and writing articles for the Gazette, through to trophy shopping and slide show preparation for our end-of-season presentation night. It was great end to the season and was wonderful to see our athletes recognised for their hard work and successes throughout the season.
Finally thank you to all my fellow committee members who have been a pleasure to work with, and to all the athletes and families of KBLAC who make the club the wonderful place that it is – I sincerely hope to see you all back again next year.

Officer for Officials Report
Another season at KBLAC has come and gone albeit a wet one in which a lot of our Friday nights were washed out. The season has seen records broken and individual personal bests achieved by our athletes. Parental help has been good throughout the season in the running of the Friday night program as well as the zone, regional and state carnivals. A big thankyou to all our age managers for their continuous efforts and direction during the season. A special big thankyou to Marilyn Pearson and David Donnelly for their great efforts throughout the year your guidance is greatly appreciated by this season’s young committee. Last but not least a big thankyou to all the other hard working members of the committee for your continued support and efforts as well. I can't forget Laurie Fairweather for keeping the grounds in immaculate condition, thank you.
Lets hope we have a drier 2012-2013 season.
Darron Blanch Officer for Officials KBLAC
Publicity Report
I would like to start by saying how much I have enjoyed being a part of the Kurrajong – Bilpin Little Athletics Centre committee. The team work and co-operation from all committee members is without a doubt a large part of our clubs success.
With so much emphasis being placed on doing things online, I hope that our website has been a useful tool for communication and information to all members and their families. The website was quite a challenge, and very daunting at first, but personally I think I have learned a lot and come far. This would not be the case had it not been for the patience and support of David Donnelly, Thank you.
Newsletters were sent out regularly, the biggest challenge being filling them, after so many washed out competition nights.
Next season will hopefully bring far less rain and a lot more Friday night competition. This will hopefully enable the website to be updated even further, especially the photo section which is becoming a little out dated.
Looking forward to a great season in 2012-2013.

Ground Officials Report
Maintaining & marking of the grounds started in August 2011 and carried on through till the end of the season. The inside lane was remarked on the 12-5-12 to accommodate our pre-season training, and no herbicides were used then.
The main circular track was marked to the usual 300m with 2 x 50m straights and 2 radial 180 bends of 31.52m. This track included 8 lanes. The circular track was marked with the standard 200m & 400m starts as well as various hurdle and pack start marks.
The sprint track was marked to the standard 100m with 8 lanes, there were line marks for the 50m, 70m, 100m & various hurdles distances.
The 2 Javelin fields were marked along with the 4 Shot pit & 2 Discus fields.
The 5 jumping pits were maintained throughout the season. The main triple jump pit had its lines repainted, the remaining 4 long jump pits will hopefully have the lines re-marked prior to the start of the 12-13 season.

Uniform Co-‐ordinators Report
I enjoyed taking on the role of Uniform Co-ordinator in my first season on the KBLAC committee. It was fun getting to know more of the athletes, parents and Committee members of our club. Congratulations to all of our great athletes who have participated, trained hard, competed, represented our club at all levels and achieved their goals and PBs this year. Thank you, I love watching you all run and having fun. Thank you Karen Ferguson for kindly handing over the job and providing all the information I needed to get started. Also, thank you Karen and Rebecca Scott for helping me through the extremely busy Registration period. Thank you Susan Ferrier for your valuable help all season and especially during the hectic time of ordering the state rep gear.
Thank you KBLAC Committee for all your time and energy given. Hopefully next year I’ll make it to more meetings than I did this year. Both my daughter Julia and I enjoyed a great athletic season with the club and now that I have the hang of it look forward to smoothly running the uniform shop next year. Kellie Black.

Equipment Officers Report
This was my second season as equipment officer and I would like to say a huge thank you to my fellow committee members and parents for their help and assistance throughout the season. Due to sickness and work commitments I was unable to fulfil my role as equipment officer on my own but with the assistance of the parents and committee all equipment was set up and packed up efficiently to enable Friday night competition to run smoothly.
A full clean out of the shed was carried out at the commencement of the season but I would recommend a general clean up prior to the start of the 2012/2013 season. All equipment appears to be in good working order although I would recommend that the trolley's are serviced.
Unfortunately I am unable to continue in my role as equipment officer due to work commitments but I am happy to assist where possible.
Finally, thank you for the opportunity to assist within this role for the past two years.

* World Youth Championships, Lille, France, July 6-10, 2011 A very successful debut for talented young high jumper David Snowdon on the international scene with an excellent 6th placing at the World Youth Championships (U18s) held in Lille, France, from July 6-10. David cruised into the final with a first clearance over 2.05m. In a closely contested competition 1st, 2nd and 3rd all jumped 2.13m and 4th, 5th and 6th cleared 2.09m. During the final David remained extremely focussed and contained his excitement when the French champion and number 1 ranked athlete in the comp was out at 2.05m. David had a huge second clearance at 2.09m and at 2.13m at his first attempt he just clipped the top of the bar. Unfortunately just before his second attempt an official inadvertently walked right in front of him. An appeal to restart the clock was unsuccessful and he had seconds in which to refocus and commence his runup. Once again he just clipped the top of the bar. His third attempt was similarly unsuccessful. Training Squad partner Emily Crutcher also performed well placing 17th out of a field of 31 competitors. She was just one height below what was needed to make the final. * Australian Road Walking Championships, Canberra, 21st August, 2011 3 athletes made the second trip to Canberra with Kirsty Klein having an outstanding walk winning the Silver medal in the U18 girls 5km Australian Championship event and Sara Klein placing a very creditable 9th. They were both part of the Gold medal winning team for NSW. Tiny Renee Hardy showed she has lots of natural talent with her Silver medal win in the U10 girls Federation 1km event. This was Renee’s very first interstate walk. Individual results: Kirsty klein U18G 5km 2ND 24.49 (PB), Gold Teams Sara Klein U18G 5km 9th 31.46 Gold Teams Renee Hardy U10G 1km 2ND 7.06 (PB)
* Commonwealth Youth Games, Isle of Man, UK, September 7-13, 2011 Another very talented KB athlete making his international debut was Jack Bangel who was selected for the Commonwealth Youth Games (U18s) in the Isle of Man. Jack made the final of the 400m hurdles with the 3rd fastest time and placed a creditable 6th in extremely windy conditions on a very wet track. Heat 3rd 53.84 Final 6th 54.41 * NSW CHS Championships, Homebush, September 2011 Individual results: Hayden Sly 14B 800m Final 1ST 2.07.09, 1500m 4th 4.31.13 Daniel Keene 15B 800m Final 1ST 2.00.09, 1500m 1ST 4.16.84 Joel Lyons 15B High J 2ND 1.85m Jessica Tibbett 15G 1500m 16th 5.34.35 Tom McCoy 16B 800m Final 3RD 2.02.31, 1500m 12th 4.37.76 Shay Southern 16G 800m 11th 2.42.72, 1500m 11th 5.43.94 17+G 3000m W 3RD 16.20.29 Tamika Bostock 16G High J 3RD 1.55m, Long J 11th 4.61m Sara Klein 17+G 100m H Final 1ST 14.76, 400m H Final 1ST 62.36 Kirsty Klein 17+G 3000m W 1ST 14.52.25, High J 10th 1.50m Tamara Mossfield 17+G Triple J 4th 10.78m * Australian University Games, Gold Coast, 25-30 September 2011 A great result for Lauren Clark in the Triple Jump scoring a Bronze medal in a very close competion with only about 10cm separating the medallists. Jo Dawson was unlucky in the final of the 400m hurdles. After a fast run to the 7th hurdle she misjudged her stride, clipped the 8th hurdle and fell but bravely got to her feet and finished the race. Karina Bangel was also in action in the 100m and 200m but failed to progress to the finals. * NSW All Schools Championships, October 13-16, 2011 Wonderful results for the Kurrajong Training Squad with 16 individual medals being won at the NSW All Schools Championships held at Homebush from 13th to 16th October. 9 athletes also made the NSW Team for the Australian All Schools Championships to be held in Brisbane in December. They were Sara and Kirsty Klein, David Snowdon, Emily Crutcher, Jack Bangel, Shay Southern, Daniel Keene, Joel Lyons and Katrina Blackett. The 17s were a particularly successful age group this year winning 8 medals between them. Sara Klein was simply amazing with an easy win in the 110m hurdles in a very fast personal best time of 14.17s. She then scored Silver in the 400m hurdles and backed up the following day to run a stunning 400m personal best of 56.19s for her third medal of the meet and her second Gold. Jack Bangel was also impressive with a Silver medal in the 110m hurdles and backing up for a very comfortable win in the 400m hurdles after having almost 5 weeks rest following his recent trip to the UK for the Commonwealth Youth Games. World Youth reps Emily Crutcher and David Snowdon also won Gold in their respective high jumps after very light training following their recent trip overseas. Our other outstanding 17 year old was racewalker Kirsty Klein who blitzed the field to win Gold in the 5000m beating her nearest rival by over a minute and setting a new Championship record. She also finished ahead of the Silver medallist in the boy’s event. Other Gold medallists were Amanda Kristcevik who had another very successful meet taking Gold in the 15 and under girls AWD 800m and backing up with Silver in the Shot Put. Daniel Keene was a standout performer in the 15B 800m with a very exciting Gold medal win slashing 1.5s from his personal best and running under 2 minutes for the very first time. He backed up well the next day to run another personal best in the 1500m final placing just outside the medals in 4th. Shay Southern was a very determined Gold
medallist in the 16G 5000m racewalk where the lead changed several times during the race. Shay put in a very strong final surge over the last 800m to win quite comfortably in a new personal best time. Katrina Blackett was once again amongst the medals with a huge throw in the 16G Javelin where she easily took the Gold. She aso made the finals in her other 2 throwing events. Joel Lyons jumped a huge PB for Gold in the 15s High J. Silver medallists were racewalker Johnathan Anestoudis in the 14B 3000m walk and Luke Zaurrini in the 12B Long jump with a big personal best jump in the final round. * State LAA Relay Championships, Homebush, November 26-‐27, 2011
Kurrajong-Bilpin Little Athletics Club athletes shone at last weekend’s Little Athletics NSW State Relays, with outstanding performances from all teams. The Under 8’s mixed team got the proceedings underway in pouring rain and a very wet track on Saturday morning at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre at Homebush. Despite the weather, the youngest representatives of the club finished in 3rd position and came away with a bronze medal for their troubles. The Under 9’s were next to hit the track as the rain started to ease, and qualified 3rd fastest for the final in another impressive performance. Unfortunately the final saw one of their runners injured in a fall, however the team still valiantly fought on to finish in 5th place, which is a fantastic result for a team of State Relay newcomers who will no doubt come back next year better for the experience.
By early afternoon the clouds had disappeared, the track was dry and the sun was scorching - as were the Under 10’s team who took to the track and won their heat convincingly, almost beating the track record. They were similarly dominant in their final, however a protest over a double firing of the start gun resulted in several protests being lodged, and the race was re-run at the conclusion of the day’s events. The team showed their win was no fluke, and won their final for a 2nd time to take home a hard-earned gold medal win. The Under 11’s were the final team to race on Saturday, and put in a very impressive performance to not only make the final but to take home a bronze medal to add to the club’s tally.
Sunday saw the senior races take place under bright blue skies at Homebush. The Under 12’s team got proceedings off to a flying start with a blistering 55.54 sec run, which qualified them 2nd fastest for the final and eclipsed the standing race record! They further improved with a 55.36 sec run in the final to be just pipped at the post in a photo finish and take home the silver medal in what was a very impressive result for the team. The Under 13’s also ran a great race and only just missed out on the medals, finishing in 4th place in their final.
The weekend was a great success for the club and shows that Kurrajong-Bilpin will once again be a force to be reckoned with at the upcoming Little Athletics Zone Championships in two weeks time.

* KBLAC Club Multi, 11th November, 2011 KBLAC held it’s inaugural Multi Competition Night on 11th November 2011. The night was run similarly to normal Friday night competition, with each age group competing in 2 track and 2 field events (U6-U8) or 3 track and 2 field events (U9’s and up). Athletes had the added incentive however, of competing for medals based on their results for the night.
First place in each event was awarded 6 points, 2nd place received 5 points, and so on down to 6th place which was awarded 1 point. Scores were tallied at the end of the night, and the Top 3 competitors were presented with medals on the following Friday night. The night was a great success, with the athletes enjoying the chance to compete for medals, and using this extra incentive to help them achieve some great individual performances and personal bests on the night. There was some very tight competition in some age groups, with a few athletes tied on points by the end of the night.
Feedback about the Multi Night was very positive, with the events running smoothly and the kids all enjoying the night. Athletes still received points towards their End-of-Season tally, but it was great to do something a little different to spice up the Friday night competition. Thanks to all who helped with the preparation and running of the Multi night, and congratulations to everyone who participated. Well done to the following athletes who were awarded with medals from the night.

* Zone Multi-‐Event C’ships, 12th November, 2011 The Zone Multi this year clashed with a fun KBLAC Club multi we held. Our night was on Friday night and the Zone Multi was on the next day.
We only had one entry in the Zone Multi – Caleb Fairweather – U9 Boys.
* Zone Little Athletics Championships – Katoomba – December 2011
Despite constantly changing weather throughout the 2-day carnival, KBLAC athletes shone at the recent Blue Mountains Zone Little Athletics Championships held at Katoomba on the 10th & 11th December. While entrant numbers may have been down on previous years, what the club lacked in quantity they more than made up for in quality. Of the 68 competing KBLAC athletes who were old enough to progress to Regional Championships, 61 athletes qualified to do so. This is a fantastic result for the club and sees these 61 athletes take on the rest of the region at Blacktown Olympic Park in February.
In a sign of good things to come for the future of the club, Under 7 athletes Kate Leach and Mackenzie Hall both received medals in all 4 of their chosen events in their first year of Zone competition, despite being too young to progress to Regional level. Four Under 8 athletes took their first opportunity to move on to Regional, including standout performer Brooke Keller who not only won all four of her events, but broke the existing Zone record in each of them! Her enormous 4.05m Long Jump eclipsed her own PB by a massive 38cm, and the Zone record by 41cm. She’ll be joined at Regional by teammates Georgia Portelli (1st x 3, 2nd x 1), Cameron Ferrier (400m & 700m) & Cody Brian (Discus).
Standout performers for the Under 9’s were Riley Howarth who won all 4 of his events, and Sarah Bradford who put in some excellent performances to come home with a 1st place, two 2nd’s, a 3rd and a very big smile! Other notable performers were Georgia Messina who qualified for Regional in 3 events, Amy Balmforth (1st in Discus), Renee Hardy (1st in 700m Walk) and Jay De Courcy (1st in Shotput, 2nd in Discus). The Under 10 Girls once again dominated their events, taking the Top 4 positions in the 60m Hurdles, and the top 2 positions in the 70m, 100m, 200m & 400m. Caitlyn Ferrier & Sophie Balmforth (1st x 3, 2nd x 1), Alanah Wiblen (2nd x 3, 4th x 1) and Bree Ellyard all progressed, along with Lachlan Camilleri who was an impressive performer as always. (1st x 2, 2nd x 2).
Similarly dominant in the Under 11’s were Tully Murphy and Jessica Keller who both won all four of their events, while teammates Lochlan Brian & Jack McCoy qualified for Regional in all 4 events, and Julia Black & Maddy Owen will join them in 3 events. For the Under 12’s Marc Zaurrini progressed in all 4 of his chosen events, and will be joined by event winners Natalie Chapman (High Jump), Katelin Ellyard (1100m Walk ), Rhomee Gaffey (Discus) and Tyler Philpott (Triple Jump).
Luke Zaurrini and Jonathan Blunden excelled in the Under 13’s, both progressing through in all 6 of their events, with Luke taking out four 1st places along the way. Jye Hardy also moves on to Regional in 5 events & Tahlia Blanch in 3 events, while Jesse Holton won the 80m Hurdles and Damian Owen took out the 1500m Walk. The Under 14’s dominated their events, with Cain Lovering 1st in both events he contested, and the girls being equally impressive including Lauren Russell (1st x 4), Bianca Messina (1st x 3, 2nd x 2), and Candice Porley (1st x 2).
The senior athletes set a great example for their younger charges by all progressing through to regional in multiple events. Notable performers were Hayden Sly with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish despite only recently coming back from injury, Carly Winser (1st in High Jump, 2nd in Javelin), Jessica Stafford (1st in the 100m in a new Zone record time of 12.7, 1st in 200m, 2nd in 400m), Shay Southern (1st in 1500m Walk), Daniel Alvarez & Tom McCoy who finished Top 3 in all their events, and Katrina Blackett (1st in Javelin, 2nd in Shotput and Discus) who surpassed the existing Zone record in all 3 of her events.
On top of all the brilliant individual performances over the weekend, KBLAC athletes really stamped their authority on the meet at Sunday afternoon’s relay events which concluded the Zone carnival for the year. Despite torrential rain preventing any baton practice prior to the race, the relay teams took to the track to a chorus of cheers and chants from their fellow athletes. The Junior Girls, Senior Girls & Senior Boys teams all conquered their competition and won their races, while the Junior Boys came in 2nd after a valiant effort. If there had been a prize for the loudest cheer squad, KBLAC undoubtedly would have won that too! It was impressive to see not only the brilliant individual performances on display over the weekend, but the club spirit and camaraderie that make KBLAC such a formidable force to face, and will no doubt see them excel once again at the Regional Championships next year.

Most outstanding were high jumpers David Snowdon with Gold, Emily Crutcher Silver and World Junior qualifier and Joel Lyons with Bronze. * Region Championships -‐ Blacktown Olympic Park 18th – 19th February 2011
Kurrajong-Bilpin athletes shone at the recent Little Athletics Regional Championships held at Blacktown Olympic Park on 18th-19th February, and for once so did the sun! If the athletes preparation was hampered by the poor weather conditions leading up to the meet, it certainly didn’t show, with 39 of the 61-strong Kurrajong squad qualifying to progress on to the State Championships next month.
As the youngest competititors to take part in the event, the Under 8’s put in some inspiring performances. Brooke Keller scooped the pool with wins in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump, Georgia Portelli claimed gold in the Discus and silver in the Shotput, while Cameron Ferrier took home a bronze medal for the 400m. All 3 are too young to progress to State level, however their results are certainly a sign of good things to come in future years.
For the Under 9 age group, a number of athletes took advantage of their first opportunity to move on to the State level of competition, including Riley Howarth (200m, 400m, High Jump), Sarah Bradford (100m, 200m, High Jump), Georgia Messina (70m, 700m Walk), Spencer Blanch (Long Jump) and Jay De Courcy (Discus). Other KBLAC athletes qualifying for their first State Championships with the club this year were Caleb Fairweather (U10 60m Hurdles), Jayden Donnelly (U10 1100m Walk), Julia Black (U11 400m), Natalie Chapman (U12 400m & High Jump), Katelin Ellyard (U12 1500m Walk), Cain Lovering (U14 100m) and Daniel Alvarez (U17 100m).
Notable performers across the 2-day carnival included Lachlan Camilleri (1st in 400m, 2nd in 70m, 100m & 200m), Caitlyn Ferrier (1st in 200m & 400m, 2nd in 100m, 3rd in 60m Hurdles) and Bianca Messina (2nd in 200m, 400m & 800m, 3rd in 100m), all of whom medalled in an impressive 4 individual events. Other standouts included Sophie Balmforth, Tully Murphy, Jessica Keller, Jemma Wotton, Katrina Blackett and Jess Stafford who came away with 3 medals each, while Lochlan Brian, Marc & Luke Zaurrini, Jesse Holton, Lauren Russell, Alicia Blackett and Carly Winser all took home 2 medals.
In addition to all the impressive individual performances across the weekend, KBLAC also performed outstandingly in the relays. The Senior Girls Team decimated the competition to take out 1st place, while the Junior Boys and Girls Teams put on very impressive displays to finish in 2nd and 3rd place respectively while being cheered on by a very vocal cheer squad. All the signs are there that Kurrajong-Bilpin will be a club to watch at the upcoming State Championships at Sydney Olympic Park on 23rd-25th March.

* NSW Youth and Junior Championships, Homebush, February 10-12, 2012 9 medal winning performances. A severe thunderstorm interrupted events mid afternoon flooding the track and jump facilities with several lightening strikes short circuiting the PA system. Annual Award Presentation
Held at Richmond Club on Friday 20th July 2012
JUNIOR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR -‐ U7-‐11s
For the most outstanding individual junior performance at Championship level this season. This year we have decided to have a joint award and the winners are:
** Caitlyn Ferrier: -‐‑ Qualified in 4 events for State (200m, 400m, 100m and 60m H), a huge achievement for such a young athlete. Progressed from heats to finals with huge PB’s in both the 200m and 400m. Was a very determined Gold medallist in the 200m. Placed a very creditable 6th in the 400m final. Was also part of the Gold medal State Relay team. Has worked hard all season to improve. ** Brooke Keller: Has trained regularly during the season and worked hard to improve. Is another hugely talented junior. Broke 5 Club U8 records this season. At Region won 3 Gold medals and achieved the 100m State record. This after winning 4 Gold medals at Zone and smashing the Zone LJ record. Brooke was also our only medallist at State Multi. All wonderful achievements for such a young athlete.
ATHLETE OF THE YEAR -‐ SENIOR
** Katrina Blackett (State + Australian Youth Medallist -‐‑ best U17 results at State. (State in Javelin, Shot P and Discus -‐‑ Gold and record in Javelin, SP 12th and Discus 19th.) Through to State in 3 events with Gold in Javelin in new record. Also Australian Youth Championship medallist. Has been an outstanding ambassador for our Centre with many State medals over the last few years. Has trained very hard all season to achieve these magnificent results.
SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR
Tully Murphy U11: -‐‑ another great season for Tully making State finals in 3 events, and medalling in 2 (Silver in TJ, Bronze in 60m H). Unfortunately the 60m H final was in the middle of his Triple and did impact a little on performance. Tully also finished a very creditable 6th in Long J. Tully is also a talented sprinter and has a bright future ahead of him in athletics.
U17 Pearson Trophy Outstanding Effort
** Katrina Blackett (State + Australian Youth Medallist -‐‑ best U17 results at State. (State in Javelin, Shot P and Discus -‐‑ Gold and record in Javelin, SP 12th and Discus 19th.) Through to State in 3 events with Gold in Javelin in new record. Also, Australian Youth Championship medallist. Has been an outstanding ambassador for our Centre with many State medals over the last few years. Has trained very hard all season to achieve these magnificent results.
Alicia James Memorial Award
* Lauren Russell: is a dedicated member of our club who has represented us at championship level with distinction for many years. This is reflected by her regular attendance at training, club nights and championship events where she always strives to do her best. She is always polite, friendly and enthusiastic and takes an interest in the younger athletes within the club giving positive feedback and encouragement. She is often seen demonstrating drills and assisting our juniors and is a wonderful role model for them.
Most Outstanding Championship Relay Team for the Season:
* Under 10’s Mixed 4 x 100m LAA State Relay Team: Caitlyn Ferrier, Lachlan Camilleri, Sophie Balmforth, Caleb Fairweather. Gold medallists :). Our best relay results this season for sometime as we were once again eligible to enter teams in the mixed categories.
