KATA IN THE CLASSROOMTEACHER WORKSHOP: A simple simulation game for teaching habits of scientific thinking

Description... for Educators and Kata Practitioners The Improvement Kata is a scientific striving pattern practiced in many business organizations. Kata in the Classroom (KiC) brings the Improvement Kata to schools through a 50-minute exercise that involves student teams working on a number of self-generated iterations to complete a small puzzle. Students follow the four-step Improvement Kata pattern to establish a goal and experiment toward it in three-minute rounds. KiC helps teach universal STEM skills for achieving challenging goals along uncharted paths:

Invitation: KiC Demonstration on August 12 in Traverse City This demonstration shows you exactly how to run the KiC exercise, through a short discussion and then having you participate in the exercise as a student. After the demonstration you'll be able to run the exercise yourself. Facilitator: Mike Rother (author of Toyota Kata) Date/Time: Wednesday, August 12, 2015, 1:00pm – 3:00pm Location: Hagerty Center at Northwestern Michigan College Workshop Fee: $20.-
