Dear Friends in Christ,
Greetings of Peace to you and your loved ones!
First and foremost, allow me to express my gratitude to each and everyone of you as we honor the Legacy of Sister Angelina, our dear Principal, this weekend. Whenever we think of St. Jerome School, we do not see a monk with a crucifix, a skull, a cardinal’s hat and a recumbent lion—usual depictions of our saint. Whenever we think of St. Jerome School, we see a Filippini nun, who has given most of her life and her heart to it. We see a smiling Sister Angelina Pelliccia. Sister Angelina is a legend in our times, an institution in our terms, and a dynamic force in the life of our parish and our Church. In the education of our young, a cardinal’s hat may pale in comparison to the respect and love she gets from us. Like our patron, St. Jerome, she has faced all the adversities of the skull and embraced the grace of the crucifix. And depicting her together with St. Jerome, she is more than a lion. She has been and is who her name implies—an angel for our times. In the close to two years that I have been here, I am edified and inspired by the way Sister has faced pain and suffering. I have seen her after she fell on the school stairway injuring her hip on her way to Saturday Morning Mass. Paled white and in pain, she still flashed that angelic smile. Angelina. At the Jersey Shore Hospital, where she had her surgery, I did not see her in tears. Without complaining after all those six days of waiting for her major surgery, she remained as calm as she had been. And why, you may ask. Because as she told me, she was offering her pain for you and me. For the school. For the parents. For the teachers. For our benefactors. For us. Artists and sculptors may have difficulty depicting St. Jerome, but we have it easy picturing Sister Angelina who personifies what our saint has depicted. Not just the cardinal’s hat, for her being our principal. Not just the skull, for some of the pains she may have felt. Not just for the lion, for the energy she infused. But, especially for the Crucifix, for whom she has lived her life—for Jesus, the Christ, who has repeatedly told us that every good deed done for His sake will surely be rewarded. Finally, there is a quotation attributed to St. Jerome, which I have also heard from our dear Sister. It says, “Good, best, never let it rest. Till your good is better and your better is best.” Sister Angelina, we are here congratulating and honoring you for all that you have been to us. May the Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Hope, keep you always in her protection. May St. Jerome continually guide and strengthen you, because we know we can never let it rest—until our good is better and our better is best. With my prayers and warm wishes, Fr. PJ

The Faith
“When I go to Church, it is not to find there my own or anyone else’s innovaons but what we have all received as the faith of the Church – the faith that
spans the centuries and can support us all.”
Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
Our Goal: $60,000 Collected: $24,392.70
(Received from 130 Donors)
Why should I support the Diocese of Trenton? Each parish is part of the larger church of the Diocese of Trenton. We are led by Bishop O’Connell, who is charged with the educaon and guidance of all the members of his flock. We must help him to shepherd his flock. Each one of us is the beneficiary of blessings from God. Our me, talent and treasure are all gis. We are called to make a difference and share our gis with those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

Here’s One Positive Encouragement
From your fellow parishioner
If you are reading this in Our Lady of Hope’s weekly church bulletin, it is assumed that most of you reading this are Catholic. Being Catholic, you were taught certain facts and doctrines of the church, learned its history and know that our textbook is the Bible, which is broken up into two sections, the Old Testament, pre-Jesus and the new Testament, Jesus and his teachings.
We are using these resources to help us pass our final exam with God through our life experiences. There can only be one of two grades, pass or fail. A passing grade gives our soul everlasting life, living in bliss as one with God. A failing grade is a “hell” of a thing to think about so we won’t go there.
Unlike most curriculums, that we chose, we probably were enrolled in the Catholic faith by our parents and have just kept studying, being told at an early age that our end of study (life) would be our beginning. We were all created with certain gifts and talents. We all retain things differently. We may look around and say I wish I was a better Catholic like so and so, or I wish I could better remember Bible passages, or better remember the Holy Days, or better remember the changes in church doctrine.
Remember, our soul is a work in progress. Do we try our best to follow the commandments, help each other, give of ourselves to the parish, donate what ever we can, read our parish bulletin, truly try our best, acknowledge our shortcomings at confession, and receive communion regularly?
We are not being graded against one another by God but are spiritual development is being graded by God on our own good works and our love for him. Let’s all help each other to develop in our religion and may we all pass this, our life’s final course.
A warm welcome to the following parishioners who have just registered in our Parish:
Jody and Vanessa Boyce and their sons, James and Gabriel
AND
Patrick and Elizabeth Catena and their children, Brianna, Aiden, and Jake
