Post on 29-Jun-2020
We recently finished our Sunday Evening study of Thom Rainer’s
book, “I am a Church Member.” It was a great study where unfortunate
norms of church were challenged. For many, church is a place they go for
an hour on Sundays; it’s a service they attend. But God’s Word makes it
clear that the church is a body of believers, working together to fulfill Christ’s
mission. The church is a family, where we genuinely share our lives
together. If we want to be fully part of Jesus, we must be fully part of His
church. We need to be reminded of this because at times, in our flesh, we
want to pull away or be un-involved. In Ephesians 4, we are implored to
walk in a manner worthy of our calling (4:1). One way we do that is by
“being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (4:3).
Jesus prayed that his church would be unified so that the world would
believe in Him (John 17:21). There may be no such thing as a perfect
church, but there should be a unified church, a body of believers committed
to each other and committed to Jesus’ mission. Praying and Believing that
is so at Heartland.
