Fark isn’t an acronym.In fact, according to thesite, the name doesn’tmean anything.

For the first two yearsof fark.com’s existance(1997-1999) the page hadnothing but a picture of asquirrel due to thecreator DrewCurtisnot having a cluewhat hewanted his site tobe about.

So, what exactly isFark? It has beenexplained that Fark iswhat fills spacewhenmassmedia runs out ofnews. Fark is supposed tolook like news ... but it’snot news.

The first year Fark wasup and running as a socialnetworking news site itreceived 50,000 pageviews, the second year itwas onemillion.
