What we’re learning re: html

Html and the trinity of web authoring standards

• The trinity of web standards: structure, presentation, behaviors. – Structure: text data formatted according to

its semantic meaning: headline, secondary headline, paragraph, etc.

– Presentation: control the page format, typogrpahy, placement, etc

– Behaviors: what it does (links, cues movies, controls content added)

HTML Reference

The following pages provide an overview of the basic html tags.

Copy & Paste any 3 or 4 of these into your html file, save the file, then view the file in a browser to see what they do.

What do we notice about how html works? What are its strengths & limits? Connect this to the trinity.

HTML Document Basic Structure

<HTML><HEAD><!– Page title and hidden info </HEAD><BODY><!– Browseable, visible text </BODY></HTML>

Note: Any plain text file with this basic structure will do …name it with a .html extension and open it in any web browser

Header Tags

<HEAD><TITLE>Should match Web page heading</TITLE><META></HEAD>

Body Tags 1: How does the whole page look?
