Interoperability…

•  a  measure  for  the  degree  to  which  diverse  systems,  organiza5ons,  and  or  individuals  are  able  to  work  together  to  achieve  a  common  goal.

How  to  improve  interoperability  between    live  tools,  services  and  systems?

The  ADL  Ini5a5ve  recently  spearheads  two  interoperability  ini5a5ves:  •  The  Experience  API  (xAPI)    •  Training  and  Learning  Architecture  (TLA)

Experience  API  (xAPI)  •  A  new  interoperability  specifica5on  for  recording  and  exchanging  learner  experiences  among  live  tools  and  services

•  Main  Components:

– Ac5vity  Streams

–  Learning  Record  Stores

•  storage  for  ac5vity  statements  and  streams

•  Support  exis5ng  SCORM  use  cases

Training  and  Learning  Architecture  (TLA)

 (ADL  Ini5a5ve,  2013)

•  It  is  a  dra_  specifica5on  •  Next  genera5on  of  SCORM  •  Its  components  are  linked  with

specifica5ons  based  on  4  key  concepts

Conclusions  &  Next  Steps

•  Standardiza5on  and  tracking  of  learner’s  ac5vi5es  –  enables  the  exchange  of  this  informa5on  between  the  app  and  other  learning  environments    –  provides  useful  educa5onal  insights  for  tutors    –  provides  meaningful  informa5on  for  the  learners’  profile

•  Device  agnos5c  UI  of  the  applica5on  makes  it  interoperable  with  several  mobile  plaeorms  •  A  more  flexible  approach  for  the  integra5on  of  the  LMSes  with  PowerTLA  (beta)
