What are academic Journals?

An academic journal is a peer-reviewed periodical in which scholarship relating to a particular academic discipline is published (Wikipedia, 2011).

Peer Review (Perakakis, Taylor, Buela-Casal & Checa, 2006)

• JCR (Journal Citation Report) was the only Major Source to identify the internationality of Journals. But indexes very few Indian Journals.

• Many use the term “International” in the journal title (i.e., International Journal of Library and Information Science).

• 3.06% of the articles were contributed from international LIS community in DJLIT for two year period (2009-2010)

Of the 174 articles published in ALIS and DJLIT for two year period from 2009 to 2010 only 3 of them have

international collaboration (2 articles for ALIS and 1 article from DJLIT have international collaboration).

14.36% of the article were cited by foreign LIS research community

Criteria 9: Online Access

• Both of these journals are open access.

• Full text articles can be accessed immediately upon the publications without any restrictions

How these journals can enhance the quality and visibility

• Include foreign experts in editorial boards

• Tightening the peer-review process to attract quality journals

• Visibility of research from third world is increasing steadily in recent time

• Provide open access to journals to increase visibility and citations

• Limitations of the Study •This study only examined the two year period of publication data (citations).
