Scarce Resources Misunderstanding Past trauma Stress

CONFLICT BETWEEN

• Executives• Executive and Manager• Managers• Managers and Teams• Teams

THE JET CASE

• On 15th Oct 2009 ,Jet Airways sacked 800 employees and additional 1100 on 17th Oct.

• Reason : Financial Crisis.• Mid – level Employees : Cabin Crew and

Customer Care Executive.• Here the conflict arised due to the scarcity of

the financial resources with the company.• It would help company save 12mn dollars.

EFFECTS

• Large scale protest by the sacked employees in Mumbai and Delhi.• Bad publicity in the press• The employees asked the MNS chief Raj

Thackery to intevene.• The clean image and credibility of the Jet

Airways was tarnished.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION STRATEGIES

• The Management promised that when the avaition industry would come out of the crisis the sacked employess would be given preference.

• Some were given the benefit of VRS• Intervention of the Civil Aviation Ministry.• Special Package for Jet Airways.

• And finally all the sacked employees were reinstated with the CEO Naresh Goyal apologizing to the sacked employees for the trauma they had to face.

RECOMENDATION• Jet Airways should have given prior notice to

the employees.• Should have taken the employees into

confidence so as to avoid the after sacking fiasco.

• Rather than sacking employees the Airways should have concentrated on other cost cutting measures.
