Audacity of Hoops Basketball Tournament is a Winner!
More than 55 youth
participated in The Audacity of Hoops 3 x 3 Basketball Tournament on Sunday, October 23rd.
The event was held downtown Silver Spring on Veterans Plaza in front of the Civic
Building. Ellsworth street was blocked off and turned into multiple basketball courts to host
the event. 15 high school teams (and a great team of Montgomery County's finest fire and
rescue workers) participated. Montgomery Blair and Springbrook squared off in the
championship game with Springbrook High School walking away with the win!
The exhibition highlighted the promise of addressing the County’s youth violence issues
through providing high quality and adult supervised enrichment activities for teens.
IMPACT proudly partnered with County Council President Valerie Ervin and Gabe
Albornoz of the Department of Recreation to host the tournament. Thanks to Reemberto
Rodriguez, Director of the Silver Spring Regional Center; Jewru Bandeh, Manager of the
Civic Building; Jose Segura of the Department of Recreation; and the wonderful Recreation
Department staff for helping to pull off the event!!!
