DAY 1 I NOV 9 I ATHENS Arrive at Athens International Airport, meetand transfer to your hotel for check in. Remainder of your day is at leisurefor your first taste of Athens. Dinner will be at a local restaurant tonight.Overnight at your hotel in Athens. (D)
DAY 2 I NOV 10 I ATHENS After breakfast, depart for a city tour ofAthens. This tour gives you an opportunity to observe the strikingcontrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Our expert guides willtake you to see the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first Olympic Gamesof modern times were held in 1896 (short stop). Continue and pass bythe Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, Parliament and thememorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, theNational Library, and Constitution Square (Syntagma). On the Acropolis,visit the Architectural Masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: ThePropylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and finally “theharmony between material and spirit”, the monument that “puts order inthe mind”, the Parthenon. Continue and visit the place where at last thestatues found their home and admire the wonders of the classical era:The Acropolis Museum. A walk through its galleries is a walk throughhistory – between the masterpieces of the Archaic and Classical periods,but also in the ancient neighborhoods of Athens. Return to the hotel.Balance of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Athens. (B)
DAY 3 I NOV 11 I ATHENS I CORINTH CANAL I EPIDAURUS INAFPLION After breakfast, depart for your 5-day tour of Classical Greece.Leave Athens by the scenic coastal road and reach the Corinth Canal(short photo stop). Enjoy the imposing landscape in the Corinth Canal’sprotected waters, one of the 19th Century world’s engineeringmasterpieces with history that starts as early as 602 B.C. Continue toEpidaurus with its 4th century B.C. theatre, famous for its astonishingacoustics. Lunch at a local restaurant. The town of Nafplion, your nextstop, a modern seaside resort and old town, is crowned by the mightyramparts at the Palamidi Fortress. Arrive in Nafplion and enjoy dinner atthe hotel and overnight. DAY 4 I NOV 12 I NAFPLION I MYCENAE I OLYMPIA Afterbreakfast, the morning is free and then you transfer to Mycenae, theHomeric city of Atreides, a city "rich in gold" of the ancient poets. Visit theLion's Gate, the Cyclopean Walls and the Royal Tombs. Lunch at a localrestaurant. Depart for Olympia through Central Peloponnese, Tripoli andMegalopoli. Arrive in Olympia and enjoy dinner at the hotel and overnight.(B,L,D)
DAY 5 I NOV 13 I OLYMPIA I ACHAIA I DELPHI After breakfastvisit Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the idea and site of the AncientOlympic Games. Visit the Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus and theArchaeological Museum of Olympia, which hosts important treasuressuch as the famous statue of Praxiteles, Hermes. Lunch at a localrestaurant. Continue through Achaia and Rio - Antirio towards Delphi,passing through the picturesque towns of Nafpaktos and Itea. Arrive inDelphi and enjoy dinner at the hotel and overnight. (B,L,D)
DAY 6 I NOV 14 I DELPHI I KALAMBAKA Enjoy your breakfast anddepart for your tour of Delphi. Located on the slopes of Mount Parnasus,Delphi, once believed as the center, “Naval” of the Earth, is the home ofthe Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios. At the oracle of Apollo, Pythia, the highpriestess of the temple, under the influence of the ancient god Apollo,delivered her famous prophesies. You will also visit the Treasury of theAthenians and the Delphi Museum, which hosts valuable pieces of artlike the famous bronze charioteer. Lunch at a local restaurant. Depart forKalambaka. DAY 7 I NOV 15 I KALAMBAKA I METEORA I ATHENS Afterbreakfast, visit the breathtaking monasteries of Meteora. Perched onhuge granite rocks, the monasteries seem to suspend between earth andsky, providing a magnificent view. Each monastery contains pricelesshistorical and religious treasures. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant inKalambaka before returning to Athens bypassing Trikala, Lamia andThermopylae where a stop will be made to visit the memorial of Leonidasand the brave 300 Spartians.
