Land Acknowledgement

We would like to start by acknowledging that we are on

the traditional territories of the Wendat, the

Haudenosaunee, and the Anishinaabe peoples, whose

presence here continues to this day.

We also would like to acknowledge this is the treaty lands

of the First Nations of the Williams Treaty and thank them

IB Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, in Grades 11 & 12, for success at university and life beyond.

It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students.

The IB Mission

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

Graduate with both an OSSD and an IB Diploma.

Encouraged to think independently and drive their own learning.

Become more culturally aware, through the development of a second language and the emphasis on International mindedness throughout the programme.

IB World School students develop strong academic, social and emotional characteristics.

A challenging academic program with externally assessed exams. Students are well prepared for post-secondary education

Why IB?

An Overview of the Diploma Program

HL (Higher Level) courses represent classes with a

minimum 240 instructional hours

=3 semesters of course work

SL (Standard Level) courses represent classes with a

minimum 150 instructional hours

=2 semesters of course work

Timetable Considerations

● Students have a complete timetable

● Students do not have spaces in their timetable for spares or non-IB courses

● Students are only able to take 2 sciences (students cannot take all 3 during day school)

IB Programme Fees

$3,000.00 Total

● $1,500.00 per year

Anticipation Year (Grade 11) and Diploma Year (Grade 12)

● There is no charge when students are in Grade 9 and 10

● These fees cannot be used as tax deductions

The Online Application

Opens: Monday, October 21, 2019 at 12 noon Closes: Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 11:59 p.m.

Application Criteria & Process

• You live in York Region at the time of application. Students apply to their area IB School. Please use the YRDSB School Locator to determine your IB area school.

Live in York Region

• You are a student currently in Grade 8.Grade 8 Student

• Complete the online application process between Monday, October 21 at 12 p.m. – Thursday, November 7 at 11:59 p.m.. Please note there is a $35 fee to apply.

• Request that a current core subject teacher complete a Reference Form. You will need to provide an email address for your teacher at the time of application and we will share the reference form on your behalf.

• Complete the Application Assessment Task in November (21st or 23rd).

Admissions Assessment

• Students must provide a COPY of the Grade 7 final report card (This is submitted on the Assessment day) and their Grade 8 progress report.

There is a $35 non-refundable application fee

Upon completing your registration, you will receive an email receipt confirming the date and time of your assessment

Please be sure to print the receipt which indicates your assessment time

ONLINE REGISTRATION THROUGH EDSBY

Many YRDSB parents have already activated their EDSBY account after

accepting the invitation by their child’s home school and authenticating

their account.

If you have not accepted the invitation, please do so now or request

another invitation from your child’s home school.

Once you are linked with Edsby, you may register your child for the

assessment using the following link:

Ensure that you use the same email address that you have on file with

YRDSB

If your information on the elementary school’s file is not current, please

contact the school and update the information

NON-YRDSB PARENTS and NON-LINKED YRDSB PARENTS

Parents must first create an EDSBY account using the campaign link

found on our school website. On our school website it will be found by

● YRDSB parents should use the email address you have on record at your

child’s school

● Click submit

● You will receive an invitation link via email. Click on the invitation link
