What is a blog? “A blog is a website in which items are posted

on a regular basis and displayed in reverse chronological order. The term blog is a shortened form of weblog or web log. Authoring a blog, maintaining a blog or adding an article to an existing blog is called ‘blogging’. Individual articles on a blog are called ‘blog posts,’ ‘posts’ or ‘entries’. A person who posts these entries is called a ‘blogger’… Blogs use a conversational style of documentation. Often blogs focus on a particular ‘area of interest’, such as Washington, D.C.'s political goings-on. Some blogs discuss personal experiences.”-Wikipedia

Why should your library have a blog?

They’re an easy way to provide information about what’s happening in your library.

Little to no markup experience necessary.

Combined with RSS feeds it’s another way for patrons to receive timely information about the library.

To tell your library’s story. To allow your patrons to participate

in your library’s story.

7

5 Reasons Not to Blog

1. “I want to give them a piece of my mind!”

2. “Oh, the stories I could tell.”

3. “I think I can find some time at school…”

4. “Nobody will find out that it’s me.”

5. “It’s OK, I will keep it private.”
