Abstract
Prior to these sessions on interpersonal effectiveness, I often believed like many
others that for effective and impressive performance in any job, technical skills are the most
important. However, I learnt that it is a myth and I found that our intrapersonal skills are at
least equally important and at times can be of even greater importance. This report
emphasizes on gaining control of and channelizing our emotions. Failure to do so can be
derogatory to a person both from professional as well as personal perspective (Lussier,
2010). For these reasons I reflect on this report my learning on intrapersonal effectiveness
in general an emotional intelligence in particular.
Intra-Personal, as the name suggests, focuses on the characteristics and traits of a
person related to the self. It is one person’s perception by which he/she observes and decides
about the world around him or herself. Intrapersonal traits include personality, attitude,
integrity, emotional intelligence. As professionals move up in the ladder, importance of
intrapersonal effectiveness keeps on increasing. In professional life we always tend to face
several adverse situations which not only tests our brain, but also the strength of our minds.
I found that people with intrapersonal intelligence always tend to make better managers
than those who don’t because of two important reasons:
Better Understanding of their own: These people have better awareness of their own
strengths and weaknesses which helps in assessing how much to prepare under which
circumstances.
Better understanding of surroundings and people: These people could also easily and
quickly grasp the nature of the surroundings and the people with whom they deal.
Thus, they adapt quicker and respond better to new situations.
