How to Set Up a Google Custom Search Engine for

Note: This slide presentation assumes you do not have a Google Account. If you already have a Google Account, go to http://www.google.com/cse and sign in. Then, follow these instructions beginning with slide 10.

1. Go to http://www.google.com/cse and click ‘Create a Custom Search Engine’

2. Get a Google Account by clicking on ‘Create an account now’.

3. Fill out and submit the Google Account form.

4. Log into the email account shown on the Google account creation confirmation screen.

5. Once you log into your email account, open the message with the subject ‘Google Email Verification’ Then, click the first link shown in the message.

6. Your Google account is now established. Now you can begin to set up your custom search engine. When you arrive at the screen shown below, click ‘click here to manage your account profile’.

7. Click on ‘Custom Search’.

8. Click ‘Create a Custom Search Engine’.

9. Fill out and submit the Google Custom Search Engine form.

10. Try out your search engine.

11. If the search engine operates to your liking, click on ‘Finish’ at the bottom of the screen.

12. When you arrive at the ‘My search engines screen’, click ‘control panel’.

13. To customize the display of your search box, click ‘Look and feel’ at left of the screen.

14. Once you finish customizing your search box display, remember to click ‘Save Changes’. Once you saved your changes, click ‘Get code’ at the left of the screen

15. Copy the code in the box and paste it into your web page html code.
