When you have logged-in, you will be taken to this welcome screen.

To “post” to your blog, click here.

Type your post here

The title will allow readers to find your article both at the time and through later searches.

Categories are your main way of archiving, allowing readers to follow up your post by reading your other thoughts on the topic.

Typepad needs to be on your Safe List of websites. Otherwise you will not be able

to Add a New Category or

Assign Multiple Categories, as these windows appear as Pop-ups.

[Control panel, Internet Options, Security, Trusted Sites]

Think carefully about your choice of category name- will people be able to find and understand it in the future?

Articles will often deal with more than 1 topic, so may well need to be included in a number of categories.

Hold down Ctrl (or Command key for Macs) and choose away!!

When writing your posts, it is good etiquette to create links to other webpages that you are talking about, exactly as you would reference in a conventional paper essay or article.

This can be achieved by clicking on the Insert Link button above.

To create an e-mail link, press on the envelope button and insert the required e-mail address.

Type the web address for the link here

You may also want to include an image in your post- be it a photo, drawing, table or animation.

To do this, click on the Insert Image icon.

To insert an Image you must find it in your files by using the Browse function.

This will ensure that if people click on the image it will open the image in a separate browser. Not advisable for animations.

If your image is successfully inserted, you will be able to see it in the

Compose Post tab.

Before posting, you must decide whether you want to allow people to Comment on your post- one of the main interactive features of a blog.

If you would like people to be able to post comments, leave comments

Open. If not, set this drop-down to None.

When you have finished, and if you are happy to Publish Now rather than

saving as a Draft or Publishing Later, press SAVE, which will publish your post onto your blog.

The blue box indicates a successful post. At this point your post will be online.

In order to

Insert a file, click here. A pop-up will be activated, so ensure your security settings will allow this.

How to Insert a File in a post

Choose the appropriate document from your files by selecting

Browse.

When it has been selected, press

Upload File.

This is the Inserted File. It can now be repositioned simply by copying and pasting it as desired.

Now, to make the presentation even clearer, I want to embed the PowerPoint so it can be viewed online, thanks to www.slideshare.net

When you have logged-in / registered at www.slideshare.net you need to click on

Upload.

Select your file from

Browse and select files, then

press Publish All.

Tags will allow other users to find your presentation more easily.

When finished and ready to upload,

press Publish.

Click here to see the status of your file!

If you now click on the front page image, it will allow you to find codes to embed the presentation in your post.

We want to embed the presentation in our blog.

So click on the code to highlight it, then right click on your mouse and copy.

Position the cursor where you want the presentation to be embedded.

Click on the Edit HTML tab, where you will be able to post your code.

This is the code which you have pasted in from Slideshare. To see if the HTML code works

successfully, return to the Compose Post screen.

You should now be able to see the front page of your presentation here.

If you cannot, check that you have copied all of the code from Slideshare. If you still have problems, ask their help section.

When finished, press Save as per normal in order to publish the Post.

The blue box indicates a successful post.

Now click on

VIEW WEBLOG to see your post online.

Upon viewing the Post online, we can see that the presentation is too wide for the blog’s column. So we need to return to the Edit HTML tab to change it.

Where the arrow has marked, we can see that the code contains details of the height and width of the slideshow to be inserted.

Our column is only 400pixels wide, so we must ensure that this width figure is comfortably under that. As such, we will try 380 to see if that has the desired effect.

When you have made the necessary changes, we can press PREVIEW to check whether they have been effective.

As this appears to have worked, we can press

Save this post.

Now that our changes have been saved we can

VIEW WEBLOG again to see our hopefully finished Post online.

We now have a successful blog post, with a presentation which can be viewed and downloaded!

From the main Weblogs page, you can view a list of all your posts, allowing you to edit any of them.

How to edit a post after it has been published.

By clicking on the post title you will be taken to the main Post screen, from where you can make any necessary changes, and then save as normal.

To delete any post, put a tick in the box

And then press

Delete.
