• Job related/Fact based

Location, Location, Location

• Positive = Public

• Negative = Private

• Pull aside

• Be sensitive

Not What You Say- How You Say It

• Use collegial tone

• Start with situation

• Talk about what happened

• What was done/not done

• Result

Manage Conversation

• Keep focus on job related

• Redirect excuses

• Don’t fall for personal problems trap

• “What can you do to prevent this?”

Summing Up Conversation

• State your belief in ability to do a good/better job

• Offer assistance without taking responsibility

• Agree to meet again to assess progress
