ear Friends of the San Diego Ad Club:

Welcome to our 16th Annual Hispanic Marketing Day! Ole!

We are grateful to the Hispanic Marketing Day committee for their dedication to this event. Their commitment has enriched each of us, increased our knowledge of the vast potential of the Hispanic community, and helped to make us smarter marketers. Thank you to each of you and in particular we thank this year’s chair, Jenifer Barsell from the San Diego Padres and Ad Club Board member.

We believe it is our obligation as the San Diego Ad Club to continue to build this event in both content and format.

The theme of today’s presentation is: The San Diego Hispanic Market: An Economy Within An Economy. Once again, we have an outstanding line up of presenters today – each of which will provide case studies and information you can use to effectively reach this lucrative market.

We welcome Robert Santiago from La Agencia de Orci & Asociados who will moderate today’s panel. And many thanks to our panelists, Jeff Overton, San Diego Padres; Joe Benites, the Benites Group; and Laura Hernandez, Sharp Healthcare. Each of these presenters will provide you with insights on successful Hispanic Marketing efforts in a wide variety of industries.

And, it is our pleasure to present the San Diego Hispanic Marketing Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Mary Beth McCabe, Sun Marketing. Mary Beth has been an active member of this committee since its inception and has distinguished herself as a popular resource and speaker for Hispanic Marketing conferences around the country. We are honored to have her as part of our ad community.

Let us absorb new knowledge, let us think creatively and let us celebrate this day.

Yours,

Greg JoumasVP Advertising & Marketing Communications, Jack in the Box

veteran of 27 years in professional baseball, Jeff Overton is in his seventh season with the Padres. Jeff provides oversight for all sales, marketing, communications, community relations and special event

activities for the club and has played an instrumental role in bringing the World Baseball Classic to San Diego in 2006 and 2009 and in the management of those events.

Jeff began his professional career in 1981 as General Manager of the Class-A Appleton Foxes before joining the parent Chicago White Sox in the fall of 1982. During his five seasons as a sales and marketing executive with the team, the White Sox became the first franchise in Chicago to draw more than 2,000,000 fans in a single season.

Following a stint as the National Director for the Miller Brewing Company’s “Miller Sports Group”, Jeff returned to baseball in 1989 with the Cleveland Indians as the club’s Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. While in Cleveland, he played a key role in the 1994 opening of Jacobs Field, establishing a franchise and MLB record of 455 consecutive sellouts… he also helped guide the Indians’ successful initial public offering in 1998, making them the first Major League Baseball team to be traded publicly.

Prior to joining the Padres, Jeff was Executive Vice President of Marketing for both the Texas Rangers and the NHL’s Dallas Stars.

Jeff now serves as a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters “Sports Bigs” and is a member of the Executive Board of the San Diego Sports Commission.

The Illinois native holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Illinois University and a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Western Illinois University. He and his wife, Shelli, reside in San Diego and have four adult children.

ith more than 25 years of experience at the retail and manufacturers level, Joe Benites brings a unique perspective

to supermarket sales, promotions and marketing.

As a former national sales manager of Nabisco-Gamesa, President of Next Generation Marketing Associates (Hispanic Marketing Company), Executive Vice President of Pacific Star Corporation (Cuetera Cookies from Spain), Joe knows what it takes to take products to market and move them off the shelves. Recognizing his knowledge of the food industry and Hispanic consumers, the Mexican American Grocers Association (MAGA) appointed Joe its Executive Director, where he increased its members influence in the California food industry.

Currently, as President of The Benites Group, Inc., a sales and promotion based marketing and consulting agency impacting the national Hispanic market, and founder of Action Demos, the nation’s largest Hispanic- owned and managed in-store-demo, merchandising and event management company, Joe has designed and executed sales and promotion programs for manufacturers such as Schering-Plough Healthcare (Dr. Scholls), Nestle Nesquik, Disney, Univision, Pfizer, Avandia, Tampico, Bush’s Beans, Johnson & Johnson, McNeil Pharmaceutical, Cerveceria Centro Americana (Guatemala), San Miguel Beer (Philippine Islands) and many more that have generated incremental sales as well as increased market share in the Growing Hispanic market. Programs developed by The Benites Group, Inc. have three common ingredients: they are designed to create sales via direct personal contact with consumers, are measurable, and add to Brand building.

Joe is currently a member of the Los Angeles Advertising Club, President of Sales & Marketing Executives Association – Los Angeles, Hispanic Association of Public Relations Agencies, Latin Business Association, the California Grocers Association, American Marketing Association of Southern California and the All Cities Resource Group and was recently appointed to City National Bank’s Hispanic Advisory Board and a member of the advisory board of Expo Comida Latina, the Nation’s largest Hispanic Food Show, Advisory Board member of Encore Associates a leading food industry group, Pepperdine University Hispanic Advisory Board and on the Board of Directors of Los Jovenes a Los Angeles based nonprofit group working with young immigrants.

aura Hernandez, of Sharp HealthCare’s Multicultural Services Department, is a tireless and leading voice for health care education for the Hispanic community in San Diego.

In 2000, Laura joined Sharp HealthCare and began pursuing her goal of ensuring that our communities are educated about the numerous health risks facing the Hispanic community, not only in San Diego but throughout the United States and Mexico. Laura has formed successful partnerships with the local Hispanic media. Through successful media campaigns that combine on air advertisement, Physician interviews and grass-root events, Laura has been able to provide health care education and expose San Diego Hispanics to the many wonderful resources available through Sharp HealthCare.

In 2004, she became instrumental in the planning of the first annual Hablando de la Salud de la Mujer event, hosted by Sharp HealthCare, and which was the first health care conference in San Diego aimed at the Latina Community. In its first four years, and with the wonderful support of various media partners, attendance has almost doubled, going from 450 attendees to almost 900 in 2008. This year’s event is sold out with over 200 people on the waiting list.

Laura currently works at Sharp HealthCare, a not-for-profit organization and San Diego’s health care leader, with seven hospitals, two affiliated medical groups and a health plan, and the only recipient in California of the 2007 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
