This brief introduction provides details of our safety and emergency arrangements at Craighall Campus

SecurityFor security reasons and your protection the campus is fitted with an integrated security management system which controls and monitors security processes throughout the campus

The system is managed from a control room operated by Security and is occupied permanently

A system of CCTV cameras are provided to enhance campus security

Security

Some areas of our buildings have restricted access, you will need your Smart card for access

Emergency Assistance

To get assistance in an emergency dial 2222 from any internal telephone

Or speak to any of our uniformed security officers

Safety signs and what they meanRED – Prohibitive Sign, stating what you must not do

BLUE – Mandatory Sign, stating what you must do

YELLOW – Warning Sign, indicating a type of hazard

GREEN – Safety Signs, indicating safe conditions

Fire Alarm

Our buildings are fitted with modern fire alarm systems fully integrated with our security systems

The fire alarm systems have smoke and heat sensors and will activate automatically if a fire is detected

Fire Alarm

The system can also be activated manually using a fire alarm call point

Fire Alarm Signal

The fire alarm signal is a voice alert message

When this message is broadcast you must leave the building immediately using the nearest fire exit route

Follow these signs to the nearest fire exit route from where you are

Specific Needs

If you may experience difficulty in evacuating from our buildings in an emergency – please contact the Disability Adviser in Student Services

Fire Assembly Point

The fire exit route will lead you to a fire assembly point

Fire Marshals will take charge at the fire assembly point

You must stay at the fire assembly point and follow their instructions

There are only three fire assembly points for the Main building and Union / Sports building, they are indicated by these signs

The locations are indicated as follows:

Smoking

To comply with the laws on smoking the University operates a no smoking policy

Smoking is not permitted within 10 metres of any building

Smoking is only permitted at fire assembly points 2 and 3

Smoking at fire assembly points is not permitted during a fire alarm activation

1st aid

Our primary provision for 1st aid is via our security officers – they are all trained 1st aiders and carry equipment belts with 1st aid kits

To get 1st aid in an emergency dial 2222 from any internal

telephone

We also have other 1st aiders throughout the campus – their locations are designated on local signs – such as this School Office

1st aid boxes

We have 1st boxes at the main reception desks in each building throughout the campus – and other places where there is a need – these signs indicate where they are
