The typical Halloween tradition dates back to the people who inhabited the islands of Gaul and Britain between the years 600 BC and 800 AC. 

Originally, Halloween was not related to witches. It was a festival of the Irish Celtic calendar, the festival of Samhain, celebrated between October 30 and November 2, which marked the end of summer.

The word Halloween is first attested in the 16th century and represents a Scottish form of the expression All-Hallows-Even ("evening"), that is, the night before All Hallows Day.

Trick-or-treating is a customary practice for children on Halloween. Children in costumes go from house to house to ask for treats (candies).
