GWP IWRM Tool Box An overview

8th OECD Water Governance Initiative Meeting

Francois Brikké

Rabat, the 12th of January 2017

59 tools

On-line, open, free IWRM data-base since 2000 WWF

500 + case studies

User survey conducted

March – May 2012

326 Responses (26% Governments; 26% Academia; 26% NGOs; 14% private; 5% students)

A broad application: education and training dominate

Favorite: case studies

In addition, findings about case studies (survey with lecturers 2015)

• Many case studies deal with IWRM processes implemented in west/north

developed world that are not applicable to developing nations. • Many IWRM case studies searched at free access databases are made for a

specific purpose – to capture the findings of individual projects with a limited follow up after the project is completed.

• There was a strong request from universities that GWP should devote resources

to develop peer reviewed case studies to be qualified for university education.

• It is recommended to create teams of academics and practitioners to develop case studies in order to complement academically sound analysis with practical realities
