GSM LOCATION MANAGEMENT

CONTANTS IMEI MSISDN TMSI LAI LOCATION UPDATE

IMEI(international mobile equipment identity IMEI Is a unique 15 digits numbers assigned to all mobile devices We can use this number to block the mobile phone from being used by the another person In fact each GSM Mobile Phone is assigned a unique IMEI code when it is produce The IMEI is used for security purpose such as to identify a stolen equipment and for the

prevention of unauthorized access to the network If you know the IMEI of the Mobile Phone you can check information regarding to manufactures ,

model ,type ,date , and country According to the GSM specification IMEI has total length of 15 digits

Imei(international mobile equipment identity

IMEI is stored on the Hardware of Mobile Station Used to check the validity of MS The same number is stored to check number compliance

MSISDN(Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Number

Real telephone number of the subscriber Subscriber can have several MSISDNS Store centrally in the HLR and SIM

The international telephone of mobile subscriber GSM customer is his/her mobile subscriber ISDN number

The number is only store in HLR of the home network and never intended to be transmitted over the air interface

First dial of prefix that is distinguish between national and international calls The second part of the MSISDN is CC(Country Code) for the relevant country 37 this not have

to be dial when making national calls Third part is network destination code it identifies the appropriate national operator The 4th part is SN (Subscriber Number) which form the full path of the MSISDN the first three

digits 123 determine the logical HLR with GSM customer store and which is used to locate his/her

The remaining digits identifies the subscriber with different service like fax ,speech , and data services require different SN

TMSI(TEMPORARY MOBILE SUBSCRIBER IDENETITY Used in placed of IMSI for definite identification and addressing of MS Assigned during the MS presence in the area of one VLR and usually changed during this

period(ID HOPPING) Store by MS on the SIM card Stored on the network side only in VLR not in HLR Is assigned in operator specific way and consist of 4*8 bits Subscriber can be uniquely identified IMSI is replaced by(TMSI ,LAI

TMSI(TEMPORARY MOBILE SUBSCRIBER IDENETITY TMSI and LAI are required for location update ot the MS TMSI is generated in VLR in relevant hosting network after the first

location update and then link to IMSI The IMSI is transmitted along for the data security reason Instead the TMSI is transmitted via the air interface TMSI is a temporary identity for the mobile radio user It is assign for the mobile presence within the location

Lai (Location area identity)

s the unique number worldwide Internationally unique identification of an LA Regularly broadcast by the Base Station Heard by the Mobile the Station in order to decide whether or not a new LA has been entered The net send it by the control channel via the air interface to the MS The MS recognize its current position and can store it in the SIM

IMSI(INTERNATIONAL MOBILE SUBSCRIBER IDENTITY

Uniquely identifies the subscriber and is stored in the SIM card,HLR, and the AUC

To identify a GSM customer subscriber in a mobile network each subscriber has its own international Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI)

The IMSI is the standard link of the 15 digits and composed of the following elements
