WHAT IS CONCRETE..?

Concrete is the mixture of cement, sand, course aggregates and water which can be poured into framework and form a hard structure like a stone.

TYPES OF CONCRETE :-

GREEN CONCRETENew Technology In Concrete

5

Green concrete is revolutionary topic in the history of concrete industry , this was first invented In Denmark in year 1998

Green concrete is the type of concrete which like the conventional concrete but a production of such concrete requires minimum amount of energy and causes least harm to environment

INTRODUCTION :-

6

What is Green Concrete ?

A concrete that made with concrete waste and uses less energy in its production & produces less

carbon dioxide than normal concrete. This is called eco-friendly and reduces

environmental impact.

7

The main ingredient in concrete is cement and it consists of Limestone (Calcium Carbonate CaCO3).

During manufacture of cement, its ingredients are heated to about 800 - 10000C.

During this process the Carbon Dioxide is driven off. Approximately 1kg of cement releases about

900gms of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere. Therefore, green concrete came into existence to

reduce the emission of carbon dioxide.

WHY GREEN CONCRETE..?

8

MATERIALS USED IN GREEN CONCRETE :-

Coarse Aggregates are :-

Recycled Demolition Waste Aggregate

Fresh local aggregate

Recyclable Concrete Material

Blast Furnace Slag (BFS)

1)Coarse Aggregates. 2)Fine Aggregates.

9

MATERIALS USED IN GREEN CONCRETE :-Fine Aggregates are :-

Manufactured Sand For Concrete

Fly Ash

Rice Husk Ash (RHA)

Recycled Glass Aggregate

10

Fly ash is a by-product produced during the operation of coal-fired power plants. The finely divided particles from the exhaust gases are collected in electrostatic precipitators. These particles are called Fly ash.

Rice Husk is the hard protecting coverings of grains of rice. Further it combusted & converted in Ash by heating around 400 – 800 degree Celsius.

Rice Husk ASH & Fly ASH:-The mixture used in Green Concrete is – 40% Fly ASH & 10% Rice Husk ASH.Ratio is (4:1). When this amount of ratio is mixed in Green Concrete , it will provide the best compact & high advantages for it.

CEMENTIOUS MATERIAL – Fly Ash & RHA

11

Advantages of ASH Rice Husk & Fly ASH

in Green Concrete :-

Utilization Fly ASH & Rice Husk ASH as a part replacement of cement or as a mineral admixture in concrete saves on cement and hence the emission of CO2.

Use of good quality fly ash & rice husk ash in concrete has shown remarkable improvement in durability of concrete, especially in aggressive environment.

Fly ASH & Rice Husk ASH make concrete green by reducing Water content, which in turn reduces Cement content.

CONTD…

a) Higher ultimate strength.

b) Increased durability.

c) Improved workability. d) High resistance.

e) Reduced shrinkage.

COAST ANALYSIS

16

GREEN LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATES :-Synthetic lightweight aggregate

produced from environmental waste is a viable new source of structural aggregate material. The uses of structural grade lightweight concrete reduce considerably the self-load of a structure and permit larger precast units to be handled. Water absorption of the green aggregate is large but the crushing strength of the resulting concrete can be high.

17

SUSTAINBLITY OF GREEN CONCRETE IN STRUCTURES :-

1. Reduce the dead weight of a structure of a facade from 5 tons to about 3.5 tons.

F = ma 2. Good thermal and fire resistance, sound insulation than the traditional granite rock.

3. Reduction of the concrete industry's CO2-emission by 30 %.

4. Increased concrete industry's use of waste products by 20%.

5. No environmental pollution and sustainable development. 6. Green concrete requires less maintenance and repairs.

18

Other type of Green concretes :-

Waste TYERS (Rubber Concrete)

Glass Aggregates (Glass Concrete)

DURING CONCRETING

AFTER CONCRETE

20

APPLICATIONS :-

Green concrete columns

Green concrete bridge

Green concrete dam (Fliming Dam at US)

Green concrete building(Burj Khlifa Tower) 21

SCOPE IN INDIA :-Green concrete is a revolutionary topic in the history of concrete industry.

As green concrete is made with concrete wastes it doesn't take more time to come in India because industries having problem to dispose wastes.

Also having reduced environmental impact with reduction in CO2 emission.

22

Conclusion :- The review

presented in this PPT clearly indicates an increasing trend and incentives for the greater use of manufactured and recycled aggregates in construction.

Use of concrete product like green concrete in future will not only reduce the emission of CO2 in environment and environmental impact but it is

• also economical to produce.!
