Grace and Truth Bible Study Class

05.10.15Two Habitudes

Last Week1. Jesus approaches us where we

are at.

2. He approaches us while we are busy and going about life.

3. Jesus always confronts the places where he is not Lord, and invites us to let him be Lord of our life.

4. Jesus did not blast us with all that he is, but where we are hiding most.

5. He confronts our autonomy, self-rule.

6. Jesus always knows we are works in progress, (or ought to be) growing in Truth, & becoming more like him.

This week

We will study two helpful habitsThat can transform our

Normal, daily life!

One very easy way to study The Bible! We begin with a very easy way to study the Bible, a way that will transform your mind and your life the moment you begin.

1 How to LiveIn the Drama2

There are four movements of the Christian Life that we practice each day to grow; or choose not to practice and decline in our moral and spiritual life.

1. Take your Bible verse from the daily reading…

“remember”• What does the word “remember” mean?

American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fifth Edition. S.V. "remember." Retrieved May 9 2015 from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/remember

remember (action)1. To recall to the mind with effort.2. To retain in the memory, (a mental impression retained).3. To keep (someone) in mind as worthy of consideration.• Recall. We must choose with effort to recall the poor.

• Retain. We are to retain a mental impression of the poor.• Keep. To possess as my own (to keep) the poor and reach

out. (Poor as in poverty? Poor as in spirit—not knowing Jesus? Or both?).

“poor”• What does the word “poor” mean?

American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fifth Edition. S.V. "remember." Retrieved May 9 2015 from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/remember

poor (description)1. Lacking means of subsistence.2. Inadequate quality or quantity.3. Deficient or lacking in a specified resource.

• Lacking. The poor have not enough food, water, money, shelter. Undernourished.

• Inadequate. Not enough to go around; sub-standard quality.

• Deficient. Especially in ability, opportunity, and power.

“Remember” + “poor”• What is this verse saying more clearly now?

those …

1. Lacking means.2. Inadequate supplied.3. Deficient in resources.

We are . . .

1. To recall with effort2. To retain in the memory3. To keep as worthyReflecting on the Bible in this way is how we grow.

For example, if we think about those three words, “Remember the poor,” we realize we should do this because once, we were the poor ones, poor before God. He gave to us everything in His love and grace. We were “lacking means” to get to God. That we were “inadequately supplied” and “deficient in resources.” God gave us everything by His grace and in His love.

2. With this fresh in mind, we would read our teaching segment by Morning & Evening.

3. reflect“Theology is a secondary reflection on the primary activity of the Christian life.” -Dr. Michael Allen

4. Let it guide you (even a little bit)

“As Christians, we are called to two things: to worship God (that is to cast ourselves upon His mercy). Second, to witness to others, (in obedience to serve our neighbors and exhibit this witness in our lives).”

- Dr. Michael Allen

These four movements are the

pattern of our Christian life

Walking through them is, itself,

Doing Theology.

See ourselves in the Story through a simple, daily study.

Rejoice in devotional prayer, reading, and worship of God.

Reflect on what the Holy Spirit reveals to you, about you.

Obediently give a witness of your faith through, care, love, service, and words.
