Building Safe Bridges

Vital safety projects have been completed on two bridges in Golden Plains. A new bridge has replaced the old 2.5 tonne load-limited structure on the Linton-Naringhil Road in Mannibadar. The replacement structure will now revert back to an unrestricted load limit, providing safe travel for heavier vehicles. A VicRoads-approved barrier has been installed on the Sharps Road Bridge in Lethbridge with works completed ahead of schedule. The new barrier will improve safety on the single-lane bridge.

mayor’s messageTalking to residents out in the community is one of the more important roles of a Councillor and we hosted a successful Conversation Post at Napoleons Primary School on Election Day.

Thanks to the community members who stopped by to ask questions and share their thoughts on issues including rates, waste, aged services and community planning activities. We are planning more of these opportunities across the Shire in 2019 and we’ll keep you posted on dates and locations.

The State Election saw the return of the Labor State Government and we look forward to working together on the delivery of many valuable and worthy projects in Golden Plains, including the new floor at the Haddon Stadium, a $220,000 election promise by the ALP.

Congratulations to everyone involved with the Cinema Pop Up in Bannockburn, including the impressive FReeZA Committee, and the many hundreds of residents who braved the cold, windy weather to enjoy a great

family night out. I also recently attended a celebration honouring Council’s volunteers and it was a pleasure to meet these dedicated locals who give so generously of their time to their community. Anyone thinking of volunteering in 2019, please contact Council to find out how you can make a difference.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe, happy New Year.

Cr Owen Sharkey, Mayor of Golden Plains Shire Council

Twilight Market Next Week

New Netball Courts at Vic. Park

Works have commenced to remove the existing netball courts at Bannockburn Victoria Park Recreation Reserve, to prepare for construction of a new facility featuring two netball courts, a warm up and multi-sport area, installation of undercover benches for players and officials, new fencing and sports lighting.

Council have funded $400,000 of this $500,000 project, with Sport and Recreation Victoria contributing $100,000 following a successful grant application.

In addition to this, the old scorers/timekeepers box located on oval 2 at the reserve has been removed, following a structural safety assessment and consultation with community and sporting representatives. The structure had also been the target of ongoing vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

Improvements to Haddon School Road

Drainage excavation works have been completed on Haddon School Road.

Council’s engineers assessed the concerns of local residents about stagnant water on the road, and it was determined that 450 lineal meters required excavation to ensure it free drained which included the upgrade of an existing cross road culvert to a larger diameter. The works will provide a smoother, safer journey for motorists.

Council is excited to present the Golden Plains Twilight Market in the heart of Bannockburn on Thursday 20 December, 4pm to 9pm.

The market site will be transformed into a colourful hub of fresh produce, festive gifts and family fun. Enjoy an evening of shopping and unwinding while great tunes and merry Christmas vibes fill the marketplace. We’ve even heard that Santa will be there to surprise the kids around 5pm! Generously sponsored by Powershop and Bendigo Bank, there’ll be fabulous food, craft beer, wine and cocktails, and the smooth tones of The Voice star Johnny Rollins to entertain you on a beautiful summer’s evening. Bring your friends and family (please leave your dogs at home) and we’ll see you at the Twilight Market!
