GMO and Consumers

Already negatively framed debate, what now?

Bumper Sticker Opinions

Consumers generally have a negative opinion of GMOs, although they are not well informed about them. The “debate”, then, is more about living with trade offs and finding acceptable benefits (think carbon fuel debate). Actvitists and interest groups have framed the debate, and could move consumer behavior through either a regulatory path or a corporate concern path.

Consumer’s view

High Fructose Corn Syrup Part 2?

• Large food manufacturers and food industry executives are influenced by consumer opinion, regardless of the science.

GMO Debate: Mitigate vs. Migrate

• GMOs are negatively framed

• There are many popular and sophisticated anti-GMO communications outlets

• Science will be limited in what it will impact

• Rather than wholesale changing opinion, perhaps Science should “pick its spots”.
