GKF Business School Welcome
Welcome to GKF Business School
At GKF Business School
we use experience to
forge the future and turn your career
aspirations into a reality
O ur vision to set up an
accountancy college stems from
the experience of running Gee
Kay Farrar: Accountants &
Business Advisors as a
successful practice for over 27
years.
In the process of employing
students over the years, we
found that due to an educational
system where the emphasis lies
on academic qualifications,
students often significantly lack
the relevant skills and training
needed by employers.
The result is that despite
spending a substantial amount of
money completing all stages of
exams with accredited
professional accounting bodies,
a student may have little to no
work experience on completion
of their exams and therefore fail
to be granted full membership
by their respective
professional bodies thus
rendering them unemployable.
This is where GKF Business
School’s maxim of “Education,
Training and
Employment” (ETE) steps in…
Education and Training are
mutually reinforcing, and result
in Employment. GKF Business
School is accountable to its
students and we believe there
are no short cuts. Therefore,
every student enrolled on an
accountancy course with us will
be offered 2 hours of training
per week in addition to their
studies, helping gain the
knowledge and skills to
ultimately acquire a relevant
role in the workplace. This will
be provided by our group
practice Gee Kay Farrar:
Accountants & Business
Advisors. Any experience
gained through our practice’s
training initiative will count
towards your respective
awarding body’s requirement for
full membership.
Our practice is both an ACCA
and AAT Approved Employer.
Our business school is listed on
the ACCA Tuition Provider
Directory and is an Approved
AAT Tuition Provider. We are
also an approved EdExcel
GCSE and A-Level Examination
Centre and registered with the
UK Register of Learning
Providers.
Both our practice and our
business school have been
awarded an ISO 9001.

theory you gain studying for your exams and
ethical awareness at the core of ACCA ensure
that you are fully prepared for a challenging
career as a professional accountant. You need
to do three years’ relevant work experience and
achieve 13 performance objectives – these
outline the standards, expected results and
attitudes that you should demonstrate as a
trainee accountant. Click here for more
information on the ACCA website.
Our group company, Gee Kay Farrar:
Accountants & Business Advisors is an ACCA

Accountants & Business Advisors (GKF
Group) will calibrate a plan specifically

knowledge and skills are carefully linked to
practical application in the workplace. The
development of judgement is key, and using
your performance objectives you will learn to
reflect upon and record the progress of your

judgement and assessing the quality of your
work – all in the context of a supportive
business school/accountancy firm partnership.

Accountancy is one of the most
interesting and varied professions
in the world, with its challenges
rewarded by a higher earning
potential. Each qualification level
is made up of several learning and
assessment areas.
At the final level, you will have the
option to choose which areas you
cover, enabling you to tailor your
training. If you are unsure about
your level of expertise of
accountancy please go to http://
www.aatskillcheck.org/
home.aspx for the AAT Skill
Check to assess your level of
knowledge and bring your results
with you so you can start a course
at the right level for you.
Every level is a qualification in its
own right and completion of the
final level leads to the full AAT
Accounting Qualification. On
completion of Level 3 you will be
accredited with 160 UCAS points.
Once you have qualified, and built
up your work experience, you will
be entitled to apply for AAT
professional membership: a
respected sign of accounting
excellence. And, with the letters
MAAT after your name, it is a
great way to stand out from the
crowd.

Developed for business people without an
accounting and finance background, the courses
provide practical, straight talking training,
packed with the essentials of how to manage
business finance more effectively.
AAT Essentials is a range of courses providing
short, sharp key skills training, to help delegates
get ahead with essential business accounting
knowledge.
The current courses are:
- Budgeting for the small business-planning &
control
- Finance for non-financial managers
- Managing cash flow, keeping your business
healthy
- Making sense of financial documents
Each course is delivered in around seven hours
which will count towards your CPD
requirements.
Delegates will be given an AAT attendance
certificate upon completion.
Budgeting for the small business – planning &
control
Implementing simple budgeting in business aids
planning and enables businesses to monitor
their performance and keep an eye out for danger
signs. This AAT Essential will help participants
to prepare budgets, make informed budgeting
decisions and effectively communicate financial
information (for example, to business partner or
the bank).
Finance for non-financial managers
Understanding financial documents, analysing
financial performance and managing budgets is a
part of many managers’ roles. However, this can
be challenging without an accounting
background. This AAT Essential provides a
basic grounding in key financial documents and
processes to help non-finance individuals meet
this requirement more effectively.
Managing cash flow, keeping your business
healthy
The availability of cash enables a business to
survive and prosper and is the primary indicator
of business health. Through exercises using
worked examples, this AAT Essential will help
improve participants’ effectiveness at managing
the inflow and outflow of cash, thus helping to
protect the financial security of their business.
Making sense of financial documents
A lot of customer and supplier documentation is
required in day to day business. This practical
course helps participants understand the purpose
of everything from invoices through to bank
reconciliations. It shows them how to keep
records that will keep them working effectively,
and keep their accountant and the VAT inspector
happy.
