LettuceBee Kids is a self sustaining entity that reintegrates street children back into the society. The process hinges upon four guiding principles of life which are: • Arts and Crafts | The more you draw, the more you draw [Lettuce bee Design] • Importance of Music | The more you play, the more you play [Lettuce bee Band] • Relationship with Nature | The more you grow the more you grow [Lettuce bee Deli] • Respect of Elders | Adopt a grandparent [Lettuce bee Yours] LettuceBee Kids piloted its first literacy program by the name of LettuceBee Literate. The program lasted for eight weeks and was implemented in collaboration with Green Volunteers, Khan Academy and Bahria University, by utilizing their vacant computer labs during the summer break. . Computer literacy lied at the helm of our literacy program. The idea was to introduce maximum number of children to digital technology thereby not only enhancing their learning capabilities but also unlocking their potential in terms of opportunities and resources. Computer based learning was also encouraged to foster self-empowered learning. The sessions was be a mix of teaching and extra-curricular activities e.g. story-telling, animated film sessions, games and competitions etc. so that the interest of these children is intact. During each session, children were taught English, Maths, Geography, and Etiquettes. We incorporated geography lessons through some game based activities and by inviting guests from different countries.
