Initiatives taken by M.P Gov.

• Schemes like Ladli Laxmi Yojna, Gaon Ki Beti Yojna, Pratibha Kiran Yojna and Beti Bachao Abhiyan provided opportunity to girls and women of Madhya Pradesh to become self-reliant.

• Usha Kiran Yojna started since the year 2008 in M.P the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 gives women right for protection from domestic violence and assistance. Under the Act, domestic violence means physical, sexual, emotional and financial violence against a woman who is living or lived in a family and her below 18- year children (boy/girl) by any male member/members of the family.

• Beti Bachao Abhiyan implemented in the state have proved successful in curbing the tendency of female foeticide in M.P and changing the mindset of society towards girls. The Chief Minister held road shows and Beti Bachao Raths were also taken out in the districts with less sex ratio. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s slogan “Beti Hai To Kal Hai” has made nation-wide impact.

Initiatives taken by M.P Gov.

• Women’s helpline 1090 has been started in the state from January 1, 2013. Through it, prompt action is being taken against the accused.

• Special women’s cell has been constituted in the state with a view to providing prompt justice to women and punishment to culprits of crimes against them. Additional DGP has been made in-charge of women’s cell. Four regional women cells at Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur have also been constituted. Of these, posting of DIG-rank woman police officers have been appointed in three regional women cells at Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur

• Raise voice against the crime• Donate in monetary or non-monetary form in NGOs which work for same

cause.• Inculcate a sense of respect for women in the society you live in • Avoid activities like stalking, photography without permission• Develop a healthy & competitive work surroundings

Conclusions

• Only legislation and law enforcement agencies cannot prevent the incident of crime against women. There is need of social awakening and change in the attitude of masses, so that due respect and equal status is given to women. It's a time when the women need to be given her due. This awakening can be brought by education campaign among youth making them aware of existing social evils and the means to eradicate same.
