Belief Teachers are the backbone of the American educational system. No one person has a greater impact on the education of a child than does the teacher who builds the learning and instructional environment, and that includes special service providers, nurses, counselors—all licensed professional staff represented under the Master Agreement. It is the mission of the Teacher of the Year Program to honor our greatest teachers.
Guidelines The candidate must be a dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled teacher in any regular (non-charter) Colorado Springs District 11 school, pre-kindergarten through grade twelve, who is planning to continue in an active teaching status. The Teacher of the Year candidate will have the respect and admiration of colleagues. Self-Nominations are welcome, and if you nominate someone else, make sure that teacher knows, so they can complete the application! 1. Is an expert in their field who empowers students of all backgrounds and abilities to have a profound impact on our
world ; 2. Collaborates with colleagues, students, and families to create a school culture of respect and success; 3. Deliberately connects the classroom/school and key stakeholders to foster a strong community at large; 4. Demonstrates leadership and innovation in and outside the classroom/school walls that embodies lifelong learning; 5. Expresses themselves in an engaging and articulate way; and 6. Has made a notable impact within D11.
Commitments Being named the Teacher of the Year is not only an award, but also an honor, and one that comes with the responsibility of representing the teaching profession in D11. The Teacher of the Year will participate in the following:
Speak about their educational experience and outlook to the Garden of the Gods Rotary Club at a regularly scheduled meeting.
Appear and speak at D11 Board of Education meeting about the award.
