Firestop penetrations are the most

common code violation found by

commercial building inspectors.

Retrofitting these violations can be

very expensive.

And once a firestop violation is found…

…it can lead to a litigious situation for

the building owner,

the installation contractor

and the inspector.

STANDARD OPERATING

PROCEDURE (S.O.P)

But you can avoid these troubles by

simply establishing a

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A PLAN

You need to plan for future

… additions

… moves

… or changes

Determine maximum

number of cables a building

may need for the

LIFE OF THE BUILDING.

Don’t forget to plan

penetrations needed to allow

all the low voltage cabling

required in the building.

Including data, telecomm,

security, CCTV, intercom,

secondary networks, printers,

modems – EVERYTHING.

KEEP YOUR PLANNING SIMPLE

Use Future Proof Plates to centralize,

install and maintain firewall

penetrations made by telecomm

installers for the life of a new building.

FPP’s allow cable bundles to be in

designated positions by design,

allowing for ease of

maintenance by

centralizing all

potential

penetrations.

FPP's can be

designed with

multiple holes for

all the different

types of cabling to

be installed, smoke

sealed and fire

stopped.

FPP's are sealed with

firestop caulk behind

the pairs of plates

with a bead of caulk

around each of the

holes on both sides of

the firewall.

The key here is to only make the

holes in the firewall as needed.

Designers can plan enough holes in FPP’s for future

cabling and avoid the lack of planning pitfalls for the life of the building, if properly

maintained.

FPP's can be used with any type of

mechanical sleeve system on the market

today. All FPP‘s are powder coated RED

and are available with any number of

different configurations to be able to

group the cable media.

Because firestop

sleeve systems are

not allowed to be left

open and unattended,

make sure to use

Smooth Endcaps to

seal the ends of empty

sleeves.

IDENTIFY YOUR BARRIER RATING

Make sure to identify your barrier

ratings and label them accordingly for

planning future penetrations.

Proper documentation with alpha numeric

identification on a digital photo could save

you a lot of trouble at inspection time.

Label your fire-rated barrier in multiple

locations and be sure to post any F - T - L

ratings.

TRAIN YOUR PEOPLE

Its important that your own people

know how to properly install and

maintain your building’s firestop

system.
