- Glass
- What is Glass?
- Glass generally refers to hard, brittle, transparent
material.
- Glass is a combination of sand and other minerals that are
melted together at very high temperatures to form a material that
is ideal for a wide range of uses from packaging and construction
to fibre optics.

- Paints
- WHAT IS PAINT?
- Paint is a colouring composition made up of 4 types of
components:
- WHAT IS PAINT? contd
- Pigments give colour and opacity/covering power.
- The binder is the material that forms the film, giving
protection and keeping the pigment in place and evenly
dispersed.
- The solvent is used to effect the application of the coating.
It thins the paint or varnish, allowing it to be brushed or
sprayed.
- Additives are used, in small amounts, to modify the film or
paint. eg. quick drying, flow control etc
- Types of Paints
- Oil paint is a type of slow-drying paint.Common modern
applications of oil paint are in finishing and protection of wood
in buildings and exposed metal structures.
- Its hard-wearing properties and luminous colors make it
desirable for both interior and exterior use on wood and
metal.
- Types of Paints
- Types of Paints
- Enamel paints are a kind of hard paint with a glossy finish.
Enamel paints can be made by adding varnish in ordinary oil-based
paint.
- Enamel paint is also used on wood to make it resistant to
external elements through the waterproofing and rot proofing
characteristics of enamel. Enamel painted surfaces are longer
lasting and more resistant to wear and tear than unpainted or
untreated surfaces.
-
- Varieties of Enamel Paints
- Floor Enamel : it is used for concrete surfaces, stairs,
basements, porches and patios.
- Fast Dry Enamel : fast drying enamels dry within 15-20 minutes
of their application. Ideal for painting refrigerators, counters
and for other industrial finishes.
- High-temp enamel : high temperature enamel paints are extremely
heat resistant.
- Anti rust enamel : used for painting rust susceptible
items.

- Distemper is an early form of whitewash, also used as a medium
for artistic painting, usually made from powdered chalk or lime and
size (a gelatinous substance).
- Distempered surfaces can be easily marked and discoloured, and
cannot be washed down, so distemper is best suited to temporary and
interior decoration

- Upholstery
- What is Upholstery?
- Upholstery is the work of providing furniture, especially
seats, with padding, springs, webbing, and fabric or leather
covers.
- Upholstery refers to the materials used to stuff and cover
seats, couches, chairs, and most furniture that requires such.
Upholstery can include a variety of materials including leather and
vinyl, foam and cotton padding.

- Leather
- Leather is a material created through the tanning of hides and
skins of animals, primarily cattlehide. The tanning process
converts the putrescible skin into a durable, long-lasting and
versatile natural material for various uses.

- Dhurrie
- The dhurrie, a simple rug that was once used as an underlay,
has now become one of the state's best known weaving traditions.
Weavers sit on looms in villages,
- creating an interesting blend of patterns- mostly geometric,
sometimes floral- in an exciting combination of colours.

- Carpet
- A carpet is a textile floor covering consisting of an upper
layer of "pile" attached to a backing. The pile is generally either
made from wool or a manmade fibre such as polypropylene, and
usually consists of twisted tufts which are often heat-treated to
maintain their structure
- Types of Carpets
- Wool and wool blended with synthetic fibres

- Curtain
- A curtain (sometimes known as a drape, mainly in the US, or
drapery, mainly in the UK) is a piece of cloth intended to block or
obscure light, or drafts, or water in the case of a shower
curtain.

- PLUMBING
- Bathtub
- A bathtub is a plumbing fixture used for bathing. Most modern
bathtubs are made of acrylic or fibreglass, but alternatives are
available in enamel over steel or cast iron, copper, composites and
other materials.

- Jacuzzi
- The trademarked Jacuzzi name is commonly used to refer to any
bath with water jets, and can thus be considered a generalized
trademark.
- Jacuzzi is a company that produces whirlpool bathtubs and spas.
Its first product was a bath with massaging jets.

and designs.

- Water Closet
- A water closet is a room which contains a flush toilet, usually
accompanied by a washbowl or sink. The term may also be used to
refer specifically to a flush toilet
- The design of a flush toilet allows people to eliminate waste
and then flush it away through a series of pipes which lead,
ideally, to a water treatment facility.

- Shower Panels
- Shower panels are made of fiberglass and protect the walls of
your shower and bathroom from water damage.
- In addition, shower panels are much less expensive than
traditional wall tiles and are much easier to work with.

- Basin
- A basin is a bowl-shaped fixture that is used for washing hands
or small objects.
- It is available in different shapes such as square, round,
oval, rectangle with or without rims, etc.

- Tap
- A tap is a valve controlling release of liquids or gas.
- Bib Cock
- It is a faucet whose nozzle is bent downward
- Angle Cock
- A two position valve located at both ends of the pipe.
- Stop Cock
- A device to stop, start or regulate the flow of liquid or gas
in pipes and conduits. Also known as a stop-cock, stop-valve or
tap. ...
- Pillar Cock
- A faucet whose nozzle is long
- Pipes
- Water pipes are pipes or tubes, frequently made of polyvinyl
chloride (PVC/uPVC), ductile iron, polyethylene, or copper, that
carry pressurized and treated fresh water to buildings , as well as
inside the building.
- Materials for Pipes
- Types of Pipes
- Cast iron Pipe - better withstands chemical and mechanical
pipe-cleaning equipment.
- Galvanized steel Pipe - used for the transporting of gas as
well as water
- Copper Pipe - best option to supply hot/cold water to a modern
house
- Plastic Pipe - cheapest pipe used for domestic use
- PVC or polyvinyl chloride - as sewers, drain pipes and cold
water pressurised water piping
- CPVC or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride for hot and cold water
supply applications.
- Traps
- A trap is a U-, S-, or J-shaped pipe located below or within a
plumbing fixture.
- Trap
- P-Trap
- This trap is used with Indian water closet . The traps are made
from cast iron or UPV sheet. This trap also has water seal and
prevents entry of foul gases to the house.
- S-Trap
- This trap is similar to P- trap and is used for fixing water
closets in toilets. The only difference between P- trap & S-
trap is that P- trap is used for outlet through the wall whereas S.
trap is used for outlet through the floor.
- Q-Trap
- This trap is used in toilet under water closet. It is almost
similar to S trap and is used in upper storey other than ground
floor.
- Nahani Trap
- This trap is provided in the floor to collect waste water from
washbasin, shower, sink and bathroom etc. These are available in
cast iron or UPVC material and have removable grating (JALI) on the
top of the trap. The minimum depth of water seal should be 50
mm.
- Nahani Trap
- Gully Trap
- These traps are constructed outside the building to carry waste
water discharge from washbasin, sinks, bathroom etc. and are
connected to the nearest building drain/sewer so that foul gases
from sewer do not come to the house.
- These are deep seal traps, the depth of water seal should be 50
mm minimum.
