Attention First Lutheran Church and School:Florida Blood Services
K
BLOOD DRIVE
Sunday, January 24th
8:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m.
We need AT LEAST 12 people to give blood this time!
Please Give!!!
Did You Know? One donation of whole bloodcan be separated into its three
basic parts of red cells, platelets and plasma that can
be transfused to save orsustain 3 lives!
Likew ise, are you looking to lose a quick pound after yourholiday indulgences this year?
A Pints a Pound the World Around. Why not jumpstart your diet after the holidays bygiving blood? You will feel so less guilty knowing you already lost a pound and havehelped to save lives while doing it! What a great gift to give that won't cost you anymoney.
There is no substitute for blood. It has to come from one person in order to give to
another. A critical number of voluntary donations are required every day to meet theneed for blood in the Tampa Bay area. However, we are consistently falling short, andfalling short means we may not have enough blood for someone like you.
P.S.: Right now, with the cold weather, we are even shorter than usual for our area!!! Weneed to catch up! (Patti Cronin)
The Bloodmobile is usually parked at the back of the church just behind thesanctuary, but please check the entire parking lot as some new drivers park
over by the school parking lot. Thank you.

From Cold to
God's Warmth
L
It may have been slow in coming, but for much of the NorthernHemisphere, winter is definitelyhere. Snow is falling over much ofthe United States and the air is stilland cold. (An extra-cold winter andwind-chill is even in sunnyFlorida!)
Cold is one of those pairs ofopposites that are foundational to human experience, like light and dark, wet and dry. Theseopposites mark a range of experience far richer than a constant mean could be, and we arefond of saying the experience of one extreme increases our appreciation of its opposite. Theregular occurrence of cold is part of the promise made to Noah after the flood. God sworenever again to destroy every living creature, saying "As long as the earth endures, seedtime
and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease" (Genesis 8:22)
Cold can be wonderful, as when cold water quenches our thirst. Cold weather can provide usthe winter wonderland in which to play: ski, sled, walk, run, have a snowball fight. Cold enablesus to appreciate the entire spectrum of experiences to its opposite: warmth. We might beencouraged to stay indoors curled up with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book, or we maybe motivated to host a get-together with friends and family complete with hot mulled-spicedcider and a toasty fire. Embrace the cold weather and find good in it. Even if we only havefrost!
Try a hot drink and marvel at God's creation, engage in conversation with a trusted friend andshare your faith, take a mental retreat to the lap of God and let the warmth of God's welcomesurround you.
As the cold winter wonderland is unfolding outside, may you bask today in the warmth ofGod's love.
