Fire Extinguishers• Materials• Spray time• Size• Weight• Price• Rating• Water amount• Spray range
Benchmarks: Fire Extinguishers
Constraints• Under 15 lbs• 2.5 gallons of
water• Rechargeable • Cost to design
Benchmarks: Intentionally Intuitive Devices
Metrics and Specifications
Difficulty of Metrics and Specifications
House of Quality Cross Linking• every customer need
is met by some engineering specification
• Some x-ed off as “related” if not directly dependent on one another
Suggested Staffing Requirements
Project Scope Feedback• Staffing: industrial design student would bring a
unique set of skills to the design• Safety: there will have to be some sort of testing box
in case of explosion of the pressurized vessel during tests
• Specifications: intuitive design aspects will be hard to quantify, a wide range of user testing will be needed
• Scope: project would include extinguisher design and box design, could be split into different jobs (as shown in the staffing slide) so multiple things can be worked on at once
