This study examines the two parallel ends i.e. Rhetoric (Developmental Humanism) and Reality (Utilitarian Instrumentalism) in workforce management.

INTRODUCTION

• Focuses on integration of human resource policies, systems and activities with business strategy.• Considered as expense of doing business

INSTRUMENTALISM

• Deploying human resources as numbers and skills at the right price rather than the source of creative energy

HUMANISM• The focus is on treating employees as valued assets and a source of competitive advantage• Capable of development and worthy of trust• Generating commitment via communication, motivation and leadership• The focus is on the "human" in HRM• Employee empowerment

Paired Sample T-Test is used here. The null hypothesis specifies that the mean will remain unchanged since there is no difference between humanism and instrumentalism. CONCLUSION• There is no such difference between instrumentalism and humanism•Whilst hard and soft HRM both give weight to a link with strategy and the importance of people hence no difference between the two.
