Abrasives Merchandiser Concepts
February 2012 | v01
1Festool | Abrasives Merchandiser Concepts | February 2012 v01
Concept Summary
Wall display
The current wall display proposes some design challenges:
• A very limited number of abrasives fit on the setup
• Planogramming demands maximum flexibility due to types, grits, and packaging size of abrasives
• Display organization is unpredictable through more than 500 dealers in the US
Current cubby display
There are some shortcomings in the current cubby display:
• Modularity is limited
• Only one box fits per cubby — as a result, holes are left when it’s removed
• Bottom row product is placed too low for comfortable selection
• It’s missing the flexibility needed for products other than boxed adhesive discs
• Not easily moved — no casters, etc. to ease the transition from wall unit to floor unit
• Serves as a generic fixture, with no Festool brand equity built into the display
Improve the existing merchandiser
Our main point of focus is to address the shortcomings of the existing merchandisers:
• Create a gravity-fed system for dispensing product, better utilizing the space through angled delivery
• Create modular “nodes” within each short run — to maximize spacing and product mix within the Festool area
• Work with Festool’s branded appeal: clean, industrial, use of metal & wire in construction, contemporary, high end
• Create experiential areas for customer to see the brand in action and what they can expect for the higher price of Festool products
Heighten the experience: store-in-a-store
• Create a fully-realized destination for the Festool brand within the retail space — a store in a store
• Here the customer can see the products in action, immerse themselves in the experience of owning the product, and find advanced education on Festool product and related services
• Bring in technology: video, internet links (QR codes), etc. to boost excitement around the brand and the product and the community built around it
The challenge Our solution

TS 75 EQPlunge-Cut SawSetting the standard for precision. Festool TS Plunge Cut Saws deliver the capabilities of a table saw, a miter saw, a radial arm saw, and even a panel saw, all with unmatched precision in a compact, portable design. Festool invented the guide rail/saw over 45 years ago, and has continuously set new and higher standards for laser-straight precisioncutting with the TS plunge-cut saws.
Faster. Easier. Smarter.Faster. Easier. Smarter.• Set up precision cuts of any length
in seconds with the guide rails’ zero clearance splinterguard.
• Change the FastFix saw blade in just a few simple steps.
• Reduce clean-up time and maintain a healthier work environment with integrated dust extraction design.
• Do the work of a radial arm saw, miter saw, and table saw with panel saw-precision all in one saw.
• MMC electronics offer soft start, constant speed under load, variable speed, temperature and overload protection.
• Cut more accurately with easy depth adjustment in mm increments.
• Deliver finish-quality cuts the first time with the guide rail, eliminating rework and material waste.
• Achieve cleaner cuts with no tear-out with the splinterguard.
• Triple motor bearing extends service life—three bearings take the load.
Plunge-cutting actionSimple depth adjustment allows only the part of the blade necessary for the cut to be exposed. The plunge-action allows placement anywhere on the cut line for straight cuts or cut-outs into material.
Scribe line = cut lineSet the guide rail to the scribe marks and know that it will cut right on the line, regardless of the angle.
Guide rail guidanceCombined with Festool guide rails, you have ultimate control over the TS saw for perfectly straight cuts. Add the replaceable splinterguard, and a splinter-free cut is achievable on both sides of the blade.

The Festool Perfection Shop
Festool products are sold in the US throughout a growing network of dealers. These dealers are experts about the product and help to deliver an interactive and meaningful experience when learning about Festool. This became evident when speaking with the in-store staff, but when shopping the product there was a disconnect.
Undoubtedly, Festool is a high-end premium brand that provides consumers with an extraordinary system of tools and a one of a kind experience. Consumers feel a strong sense of loyalty to the Festool brand and their expectations are high — we think this should be reflected through the in-store experience.
We have created the Festool Perfection Shop to illuminate the Festool area and to strengthen the brand presence within the retail space. This elevates the in-store experience and draws consumers in. Being conscious of limited floor space these concepts integrate with existing Festool fixtures and work within small or large store footprints.
