Placarding
Placarding of combination (multiple compatibility groups) shipments
Compatibility group letters are not required on placards used for transport by highway or rail; however, they may be used, if desired.
Compatibility group letters are required on placards used for transport by air or vessel.
Placarding considerations are significantly simpler if using Division placards (placards without the Compatibility group letter).
The DANGEROUS placard cannot be used when transporting only 1.4C and 1.4D on a transport vehicle
Placard considerations for combination shipments when utilizing Compatibility group placards.
For any shipment of C, D, and/or E, you must use a compatibility group E placard.
For any shipment of C, D, and/or E with G articles (excluding fireworks), you must use a
compatibility group E placard.
For any shipment of C, D, and/or E with N, you must use a compatibility group D placard.
Placard considerations for combination shipments when utilizing Division placards.
For any shipment of an authorized combination of compatibility groups (see Segregation), use the lowest numbered (highest risk) placard. Examples:
1.1D + 1.4D = 1.1 1.2C +1.3C + 1.4D = 1.2 1.2C + 1.4G = 1.2 1.4C + 1.4D + 1.4S = 1.4
