How an election has turned out?

• Warren Mitofsky.• Poll of voters taken immediately after they

have exited the polling station.• Asks whom the voter actually voted for.• Conducted by companies for newspapers &

broadcasters.

Purpose of Exit Poll

• Used to collect demographic data about voters.

• What is the reason for voting a particular candidate .

• Margin of error.

Format of Questionnaire.

• Satisfaction level of the constituents from their present MP/MLA.

• Local issues, grievances, and demands which can influence election

• Leader’s behavior with the common people • Kind of leader constituents want• Most active party in the local area• Preference about all given candidates• The most reliable candidate • Satisfaction level from the leader’s contribution

Exit Poll Results

Influence election results. 1980 US presidential Election->Ronald Reagan

Voters stayed away after hearing the results.

2000 U.S. Presidential election. Between Republican candidate George H. W. Bush & Democratic candidate Al Gore. Voter News Service called the state as a win for Gore 12 minutes before polls. Charges of media bias were levied against the networks by Republicans.

Opinions

Ban on Exit Poll.Widely noted by the public at large. Influence the process by which people make

up their mind about who to vote for. Adversely affects the level-playing ground in

politics.
