Everyday Mathematics 4 and
Interactive Whiteboards:
Set-Up and Recommendations
Overview
The following information provides suggestions on how to set up classroom Interactive Whiteboards
(IWB’s) for use with Everyday Mathematics 4. There are many manufacturers of IWBs, but this
document focuses on Promethean and SMARTBoard, the two most popular manufacturers.
IWBs and their related software are a complex system and need regular maintenance like any other
technology devices and software. New versions and patches are released regularly and often are
needed to keep EM4 technology (and other technology) working optimally. It is advised that you
work with your IT support team to ensure that your software is kept up to date at all times to ensure
the best teaching experience.
If you experience an IWB-related issue, please do the following prior to calling customer support:
1. Ensure that your computer or tablet meets the minimum system requirements of the
ConnectED platform. This is the platform on which EM4 technology lives.
You can check this here:
http://help.k12.mhedu.com/systemcheck/
2. Make sure that you are using the latest version of the IWB software. See tips on how to
check and update your software in subsequent pages of this document.

SMART Boards Page 6
3. Make sure that you are using the latest version of your web browser. We recommend
Chrome and Firefox. See Page 9 for instructions on how to update your browser.
4. If you are using a SMART Board, turn off the SMART Ink tools.
5. If you are using a Promethean Board, calibrate it with 25-point precision.
6. If the issue persists, note the grade, lesson, and activity (or slide) in which you experienced
the issue. Call Customer Support at 800-437-3715.
