In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media problems?

Titles

We stayed with the standard convention of placing opening credits over the top of our moving images without covering over any faces

Examples from Se7en

Setting

We’ve used Sorority Row to influence our choice of lighting and colours

We’ve used warm colours and tones to juxtapose the dramatic music

Props

Symbolism of blood

Similar to the opening sequence of Se7en where red is used in a mostly grey environment

Close Up

Mid Length

Long shot

We used different shots to create a different effect.

Showing feelings/emotions

Show the actress’ outfit and body – links to target audience - men will find her attractive, women will want to copy her styles

Establish scene

Sorority Row

The Ring

Scream

Genre: Thriller

We used dark colours and fast motion to help build suspense and convey the idea of fear – juxtaposes warm lighting

Actress’ body language and facial expression conveys fear

Scream

The Ring

We introduce our character at a young age then use a quick cut to show her now. We used a photo shoot to establish that she is famous/a model and included a short discussion with her manager to establish that she has struggled with the paparazzi.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

We based our character, Georgia, on these girls from ‘Sorority Row’

Happy, cheerful, attractive

Juxtapose the themes of the film

Similar style outfit(high heels, simple makeup)

Both Sorority Row and our film lead the viewer into a false sense of security through the happiness of the characters.

Georgia is a model/actress struggling with the consequences of fame

Female, Young, AttractiveAppeals to both men and women

Sex symbol Role model

Kate Moss

Chased by paparazzi

White, middle class, fits typical ‘rich girl’ stereotype

Georgia

Stereotypes

Jodie Kidd

Positive Public Image (although she has faced some criticism)

Model

Middle Class

We wanted to comment on some people’s obsession with fame and the trouble celebrities face. We used Jodie Kidd and Kate Moss to influence our character because they have both struggled with the paparazzi and overzealous fans.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media

product and why?

A film company such as ‘Summit Entertainment’ would produce our film because:

•Its a big Hollywood company but has remained independent.•They have produced films such as ‘Twilight’ so are successful.

This will appear at the beginning of our film to show who the producer is.

The film could be released as a major Hollywood because:

•It has a good story line and the right characters so has enough potential.

Our film is similar to ‘Sorority Row’ which is made by ‘Summit Entertainment’ and was a major Hollywood film.

A film similar to our with the same release strategy is ‘The Bodyguard’ because:

•Its has the same kind of genre, thriller.•It is produced by a successful film company.•It has the same protagonist female. character in it. •It was released into cinemas. •It made it to DVD.

It would be release to cinemas because:

• This offers a larger marketing opportunity.

• It covers large audience so makes it easily accessible for people

The money for the film would come from:

• A bank loan (if it was going to be low budget)

• A sponsor

• Or a production company could buy the film and then fund it for us (If it was going to be a high budget film)

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our Protagonist character is an attractive, middle class, white British woman so appeal to

both men and women because:

Women:

• Admiration

• Life Similarities

• Can relate to character

Men:

• Attractiveness

• Sexual Appeal

The target audiences tastes:

Via Music:

• RnB- the beginning starts with a popular RnB song so the audience may be interested because of the music in the first 5 seconds.

Via Clothes:

• Fashionable-The clothes worn are high fashions from shops such as Topman/

Topshop so are quite Indie.

The two genre of RnB and Indie have mixed together two genres so give a wider audience appeal.

TV Shows the target audience may watch:

• Harpers Island- A thriller/horror genre- this TV programme may appeal to our audience.

Other thriller/horror shows

The audience would watch it for:

• Entertainment purposes- interested in the genre or story line.

• Admiration- The main character is a celebrity so people may watch it for admiration of her.

Women may admire her for her strength-for example in this clip when she is the stronger character, pushing away the man.

A film similar to ours in terms of audience is:

• Sorority Row- This used:

• modern up to date music

• Attractive female protagonistic characters

• Fashionable clothing

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Different shot types:• Here we have

now experimented with different shot types-a long shot, this shows all the characters together and sets the scene.

Different shots continued...

• We experimented with filming through things, there were a lot of mirror shots...

Using these kinds of shots make it more scary because it shows that she is oblivious to what is going on around her. It also scares the audience because they don't know what is going happen when she turns around.

Different Editing Techniques• We

experimented with various editing techniques...

Here we added a crackled effect to the shot which made it look older so the audience could clearly tell that it was shot years before the film.
