Ethylene Vinyl Acetate for customized solutions
2
LG Chem.
has developed family
of high content
vinyl acetate EVA
copolymers,
ranging up to 40%.
The EVA copolymers of LG Chem. are
thermoplastic materials produced by the
copolymerization of ethylene with vinyl acetate
comonomer. The copolymer has random
branched structure as illustrated in Figure 1.
Physical PropertiesThe properties of EVA copolymers are dependent
on vinyl acetate incorporation, molecular weight
and molecular weight distribution.
The effects of the vinyl acetate content to
copolymer properties are shown in Figure 2.
The influences of Melt Index on some important
properties are also shown in Figure 3.
Mechanical PropertiesAs vinyl acetate content increases, the crystallinity
decreases and its dependent properties such as
tensile strength, hardness are reduced.
The Melt Index affects certain mechanical
properties, especially for processability.
On the contrary to this, the rubbery properties
like elasticity are increased.
Thermal PropertiesMelt temperature declines almost linearly with
increasing vinyl acetate content.(Figure 4)
But the impact strength and sealability of
low temp. are improved with increase in
vinyl acetate content.
Compound PropertiesThe EVA copolymers are miscible in a wide
range of ratios with various polyolefin resins.
The addition of an EVA copolymer to an
elastomer, improves properties such as stiffness,
tear resistance and solvent resistance. The EVA
copolymers also has good compatibility with
various kinds of fillers and pigments, so they can
be used as a base resin at functional compounds.

Product Applications
Photovoltaic Encapsulant (PVEN)The EVA encapsulants can be used as adhesion layers between glass and backsheet with cells inside the photovoltaic module. It delivers decades of service life with good transparency and adhesion property.
Extrusion CoatingThe EVA copolymers can be extrusion-coated onto various substrates. The EVA coating will offer excellent sealability, clarity and good adhesion to substrates such as OPP, Nylon and PET films. The extrusion-coated films are generally applied for
various thermal laminating films.
Hot Melt AdhesiveThe EVA copolymers can be used as base polymer in the HMA product to control the viscosity, cohesive & adhesive strength and flexibility. High vinyl acetate content improves adhesion & flexibility and the speed of operation gets faster with
higher MI. The main applications are packaging, wood veneering
and bookbinding.
Wire and CableThe use of EVA copolymers in crosslinked electrical applications can improve processability, the acceptance of higher filler loading, and heat resistance. The blends with applications in wire and cable industry are semi-conductive compounds, black jacket and hologen-free flame retardanat(HFFR) formulations
after blending with Polyolefins.
FoamingThe EVA foam can offer the elastic nature with softness and resilience, that mainly depends on the high vinyl acetate contents. Ease of crosslinking also rises with increasing vinyl acetate content. The sole of athletic shoes, sponge shoes and many kinds of cushions are the major application for EVA foaming.
