Two roads diverged in a wood, and I --

I took the one less traveled by,

and that has made all the difference

Robert Frost

Defining Ethics…

“ On matters of style, swim with the current,

on matters of principle, stand like a rock.”

- Thomas Jefferson

Embracing Ethics…

This kind of thinking landed Jefferson’s likeness on our currency. Don’t be too quick to downplay the value of ethics.

Considering Ethics…Ethics is: a system of moral principles: culture of a company. the recognized rules of conduct and/or practices in respect to a

particular class of human actions or a particular group, culture, etc.:medical ethics; legal ethics.

moral principles, as of an individual:”I can not tell a lie” – G. Washington

philosophy dealing with values, as they relate to human conduct; to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions; to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions:

“The end justifies the means” – Machiavelli“ Golden Rule”- most cultures and religious systems

What Ethics IsPutting The Pieces Together

“Looking At The Choices”

• Ethics has a place in everything we do … and affects the outcome by how we chose to do

• Ethics IS all about understanding our choices and “doing the right thing for the right reasons”

What Ethics IsPutting The Pieces Together

In dealing with ethics, we must make a choice. We have two we can choose from- both have consequences:

1. Choose good ethics2. Choose bad ethics

Ethics is about choices. Do we consistently try to do the right thing, all the

time? At a deeper level “ can you do the right thing even

when it doesn’t “personally benefit you?”

You Get to Choose!

It’s the ripple effect…

...it doesn’t stay where it started.
