Possessive adjectives express ownership of things and people.

Por ejemplo: Es mi dinero. (It’s my money.)

Ellos son sus maestros. (Those are his teachers.)

Connecting with Prior Knowledge:

LikeLike other Spanish adjectives, possessive adjectives always agree in GENDERGENDER and sometimes NUMBER NUMBER with the noun they describe.

Ejemplo: las chicas bonitas

la mujer bonita

UnlikeUnlike other Spanish adjectives, however, possessive adjectives go directly before the noun they describe.

Es mi gata. (It’s my cat.)

Son mis gatas. (They are my cats.)

Use: NOUN + de + PERSON  Ejemplo: Es su abuela.

OR

Es la abuela de Juan. Es la abuela de Anita. Es la abuela de ellos.

Keep in mind!

When discussing your family you may also want to use indefinite articles.

Por ejemplo:Tengo un hermano. Mi

hermano tiene siete años. (I have a brother. My brother is

seven years old.)

AVOID saying, “Tengo el hermano.”

CONTRAST the use of possessive adjectives in Spanish and English.
