Aestheticknowledgeisafundamentaldimensionofthehumancultureandithasbeencrucialinthe development of a scientific understanding of the natural world. However, a study of theanthropological meaning of aesthetic behaviours faces currently with countless problems.Philosophicalaestheticstraditionallyoscillatesbetweenatheoryofknowledgeandatheoryofart.Asaresult,allattemptsofconceptualframingofaestheticshavefailedandsofar,thereisn'tanaccepteddefinitionofaestheticbehaviour.Nevertheless,humanscienceslikearchaeology,socialanthropology,psychologyorneurobiologyadopttheaesthetictheoriesproposedintheoccidentalphilosophical tradition in order to analyse the complexity of the aesthetic dimension. This factcauses several conceptual andepistemologicalproblems for the scientific approach toaestheticdomain.Whatweneedisanepistemologyofaesthetics–atheoryofhowweknow(andwhatweknowabout)theworldthroughanaestheticexperience.Theaimoftheworkshopisanepistemologicalclarificationoftheaestheticsasamodeofknowledgeculturallydiversifiedandanchoredinourcognitive architecture: What is aesthetic knowledge?
