Enhancing physical activity during rehabilitation

Background to problem worth solving:• Physical activity is important for health

and well being• Stroke unit data reveals that inpatients

spend 10% of the waking day in upright activity

• In the first 6/12 of 2017, inpatients at Balmain Hospital took an average of 1260 steps and spent 9.5% of the day in upright activity

Plans to sustain change• For the next 5/12, change ideas will be implemented• Process measures will be collected and a dashboard set

up on the ward for staff and patients to view• From 1 August, data collection on the “treatment” group

will commence• Activity monitor data will be collected through this period

Plans to spread /share changePublish in scientific journal, present at conferences, add to ACI Innovation Exchange and submit for Sydney LHD Quality Awards
